Smile What's your period like after a laparoscopy?

Hi all!

I had a laparoscopy and diathermy nearly 2 weeks ago. I am on Yasmin and was due to start my 7 day break last friday, but decided to continue on to the next pack as at the time I really was not in the right state of health to have something else going on!!

I am now wondering whether I just have my break sooner or later, as I've read that bleeding can be far heavier and more painful after this operation.

Any tips or advice please?

Thank you xx

me again I cant take the pill. But as you know, i had my lap done a week before yours. I just started my first af since my lap on Mon. It isnt as heavy as usual, or as painful. Although it is still heavy/painful........but not like it would have been a few months back. If you see what i mean.

my back pain isnt so much this month either, or my leg pains, or my headaches.

Hi Eva,

Thanks for replying! I was wondering if it was just me - I feel so different now, no back ache, far less fatigue (now the after effects of the op are over), no headaches or major cramps. Still have some sudden sharp pains in my ovaries, but think that's just a sign of healing so not too bothered.

I read on an endo website the first period is the worst, so I got scared! think I might continue to take my second pill pack and have my bleed in a couple of weeks when my stitches should be better! Accidently seemed to pull the one above my hoo-hah today! I was just opening the fridge and felt it POP! Whoops...now it's painful but hopefully won't last!

I know you can't take the pill, but do you still have your Mirena? I have to see my gynae in August now for a follow up. I am wondering whether he will keep me on Yasmin or swap me to a lower oestrogen pill or mini-pill...he did say that Yasmin was good for endo though. I'm still educating myself though!!

xx

Aww bless you! Yes i was reading that site, scared me a bit...hopefully will be ok.

I had a normal IUD last year and it caused me no end of pain and bleeding! They are awkward!

How are you managing now?

The pain isn't bad now, overnight I seemed to lose that stitch and i know have a vertical sar instead of a bunched up blob! lol! xx

glad your stitch has come out now. I thought you'd seen the thread at endo uk about it scared me, too. Just goes to show we are all different with experiences, really.

i am doing ok, thanks. know what you mean about having a flatter scar now, instead of a raised blob.

Yes, I think it is good to be prepared, but I must admit I was really scared! I have decided to take my pill-free week now and get it out the way, so now just waiting...lol!

All my stitches are out, and I am actually really pleased with the way the scars look - which sounds odd, but they could have been a lot worse and are barely noticeable!

I hope you are feeling a lot better now!

xx

I'm glad to report that af came and it was fine, not anywhere near as bad or heavy as I thought it would be. In fact, it was possibly better than before the lap. Hope it improves as time goes on. Need to see whether I feel more comfortable taking my pill continuously for 2-3 months now.

Thanks for the support! xx

Aw thanks eva! I hope you feel lots better in the future too! And to everbody else on here who's recently had a laparoscopy!

I can't believe how easy this AF has been. Usually (pre-op) I was needing to take an afternoon nap, loads of painkillers...just felt thoroughly exhausted and rubbish. Hopefully that's in the past for a while now!

Best wishes xx
