Default What should I do?

Hi everyone,

My name is S.M. I'm 16 and I've been having irregular periods since I started them..I'm also over-weight, have body hair where I shouldn't have it and suffer alot from depression...In two hours I'm going for a scan at my local hospital, so they can look to see if the polips on my ovaries have developed into cysts. Should I be worried? Could I get Edometrial Cancer? And if it the worst should happen what should I do? I'm very poor and I can't afford effective treatment or medication...What should I do?

Can you apply for government assistance to cover your medical expenses? You state that you are "very poor", so Im sure that you would qualify. Try not to be worried yet. Is there someone who is going with you for support? Good luck

please don't worry about endo cancer. It is highly unlikely that PCOS will cause it.
Later in life it could become an issue if you don't have enough periods to drain your uteris. This usually can take a long time and there are MANY of factors to it as well.

So put that out of your mind. I also suggest taking a trusted friend or family member with you. Even if they sit in the waiting room.

Take care and let us know your results.(it could take 2 weeks to get them back)

Welcome to SC. I hope you had a good appointment, and have a good doctor who can let you know where to go from here. There are some great sticky threads on the Newbie board for getting started with treatment, tests, etc.

hey, just wanted to say welcome to the board. my heart goes out to you, i was diagnosed at 17 and i'm 22 now and it does seem a scary prospect at first. i was depressed also, but it does get better. i hope you have someone to support you through this. we're always here if you need to vent oranything, and feel free to pm me if you need a chat or anything. if you visit the teen part of the board there are other girls your age who may be able to help you more because they are in a very similar position.i have lots of cysts on my ovaries, but i think the prospect of cancer because of PCOS would be a worry thats a long way off.
