I had a CD13 scan today to see how my body was responding to the increased dosage of Clomid (100 mg). Well the sono showed no mature follicles, NONE! I had several follicles on each ovary that were all under 8mm. I talked to my RE after the sono and he doesn't think Clomid is going to work for me. Last month I only had one follicle (19mm) when I triggered and upping the dosage seems to have made my response to clomid even worse this time around. He thinks I should move on to injectables. The problem is my HSG showed my right tube is dilated, I believe this is called a hydrosalpinx, so my RE wants to do a laporoscopy (sp?) to determine if it is a hydrosalpinx and if so remove it. We discussed IVF as well and he informed me that studies have shown that IVF success rates are decreased by 50% when there is a hydrosalpinx. So I am going to have the procedure done sometime next week.
The whole time I'm talking to him all I can think is "How did I end up here?" I just went in for a scan and was thinking that the worst that could happen was that he would want to wait a few days and then rescan. Instead he tells me this cycle is not going to work and then added that his personal opinion is that I have a very slim chance of conceiving on clomid. OUCH!!
So my question to you ladies is what would you do? I know that I've only done two rounds of clomid and that it's very early in our ttc journey to do IVF but my insurance does cover it. I don't want to waste a bunch of time on other treatments which might eventually lead us to IVF anyway. Not to mention the fact that i don't know how much of this I can take. I already feel like I'm reaching my limit of emotional stress that I can handle. I don't know what to think right now. I feel like god is really trying to tell me I shouldn't be a mother. I know that doesn't sound reasonable but so far nothing has worked in our favor.
I don't know if I have ever mentioned this before but one of the reasons I don't want to do injectables is that my RE would want me to do IUI. The thing is that my husband has performance issues when it comes to providing a sample. We have tried so many different ways so that he could provide have a SA and nothing has worked so far. If we did IVF my RE would surgically remove the semen so we wouldn't have to worry about that but whose to say they wouldn't realize at that point that we aslo have male factor if as well?
Sorry for the long post but I really need some advice or words of encouragement. I'm actually contemplating letting this all go and giving up. I just don't know if I have it in me to keep fighting all the odds.

Sorry you are going throught all of this, ttc can is such a roller coaster ride. I am new to fertility meds, this will be my first cycle on meds but I have done a ton of research for the past two years. You may want to ask your Doc about Femara, studies have shown that it has had great results with women who don't respone to clomid. My RE has put me on Femara, he says that he is not a fan of clomid and feels that Femara works better.

Thanks Milly. I didn't think about that until I was driving to work after my appt. I should have asked him about Femara but I was so overwhelmed by all the information that I coudn't even think straight. I will have to ask about that next week when I see him again.

Definately try Femara first. My RE plan is clomid max 3 cycles, Femara if I insist, an IUI if I'd like. Originally she said injectables, until I told her that my insurance will cover IVF/IUI up to 13k. At that point she said I could do that after.
So within 5-6 cycles I would got to IVF if I'm not resonding to meds. My feeling is, if I can tollerate the s/e and I'm Oing then I'll stick with that for extra cycles.
Before you go to IVF you definately should have a SA done. Will the DR let you get a sample at home? I'm about 1 hour away, so I couldn't.
If so, don't tell him what you are doing. Blind fold him and surprise! ;-)

I believe RE cannot conclude in just cd 12 scan that you are not responding to clomid. Its just your second cycle. In my cd 14 ultrasound there were no follies but in my cd 19 ultrasound, RE saw one big follie. Are you going for another ultrasound? If not,plz go before concluding the decision of IVF/IUI.
Dont loose hope yet. Femara is another option as mentioned above. Keep bding every other day atleast. You never know god may bless you soon.
Thank you ladies. I'm sitting here at my desk (supposed to be working) thinking about everything I discussed with my dr this morning and I can't help but question the fact that he didn't even want to bother to rescan. I think I'm going to find a different RE. The more I think about it the more I realize I don't really trust my RE's judgement not to mention the fact that I never see him. I hadn't seen him once in the last 4 times I went to his office, I always see the RN. I think I'll call the office right now and request another scan on Monday or Tuesday of next week. Too bad if he thinks I'm going against his recommendation.
Hope4mom I read your post about your scan and follies and that's what got me thinking about rescanning To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 10 or greater. You currently have 0 posts. Thanks again ladies for your responses and encouragement.
BTW I loved your suggestion Winddrop, I will have to try the blindfold idea lol.

Okay ladies so my laporoscopy is scheduled for Wednesday of next week. I am going in on Monday to sign the necessary forms. I spoke to the nurse at my REs office and she agreed to do a sono at that time to be sure I definitely did not respond to the meds. That makes me feel so much better. I will keep you all posted To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 10 or greater. You currently have 0 posts.
