Default What Should I do? (re: non-stop bleeds)

I've been having a ton of bleeding problems for the last year. Mainly bleeds that last 4-8 weeks non stop and my doctor gave me a list of choices to think about how I want to handle this. I'm not sure though what would be the best choice for me.

1.) BCP Yasmin to be specific- problem is, that although I have cut back significantly I still smoke and she said that I would be at risk for blood clots

2.) Progesterone for 10 days a month for 3 months to try and "reset" my system- I would still be at risk, but only for 10 days per month as opposed to 30

3.) Wait until this bleed stops (who know's when that might be) get another transvaginal ultrasound and then possibly get a D&C to "clean things out"

I'm not really sure that I like any of the options given to me. Has anyone had any success with any of the above methods. She told me to take as much time as I need to think things over and that she doesn't want to push anything on me. I would certainly like these non-stop bleeds to ease up, but all of the options presented to me don't sound real great.

Oh, non-stop bleeding bites! I had that off and on for a year one time. It was before I was diagnosed and I had to go on bcp for it to stop. When I was dx, I came off of bcp, started met and within 9 months I was cycling on my own. SO much better than it had been. I also became anemic because of all the bleeding, and that was contributing to it also (vicious cycle). Hope she's checking your levels for you.

I thought the risk of blood clots with bcp was from the estrogen in them, not the progesterone?? Interesting.

Anyway, all the choices have pros and cons. BCP is self-explanatory. The progesterone, like I said, I didn't realize it could contribute to blood clots. However, I have to say that I absolutely detest taking provera. How are your moods on it? You may want to take that into consideration, if you want to deal with the side effects for 3 months. It does sound like a good idea, though, to try to reset your system. It didn't work very well in my case, though. That's when I ended up on bcp. The D&C - sometimes a good 'clean out' is what's needed, but there are some things to consider with it also: it can be a bit painful, plus you're talking anesthesia. It can leave scar tissue which, depending on the severity of it, can lead to more problems. In my sister's case, hers left her lining so thin that it never really got thick again on its own and she ended up with a lot of constant spotting. She ended up on bcp to control it.

I guess in the long run, if you can handle the s/e of provera (or whatever she'll give you), maybe that might be the safest? And if that doesn't work, then you still have the other 2 to try. JMO. Good luck! :

I bleed for about 2 weeks or so, maybe a bit more, like 3 weeks. I just stick it out, as I hate taking anything chemical. Again, that's just me though.

Smile Hello

Hi, this is my first post as i have just registered. Last year i was bleeding heavily and suffering excrutiating pain. Passing out sometimes. My gp put me on Yasmin and i take three months worth of tabs before i have a break - this took quite a while to take hold. I now have some painful periods but nothing like before and some with v little pain. Bleeding is nowhere near as heavy now. I occaisonaly bleed mid packet but just continue and it stops.

My gp is good about this and if i come up with evidence of something else he will let me try. Perhaps a coil will help?

Lisa
