I have to stop taking the birth control pill due to heavy fatigue (like being in the first trimester of pg when you feel the need to sleep all the time and you never feel rested) and my blood pressure shooting up. I want to know what I should expect in terms of my thyroid. Will it go up, down?? How will I feel? How long do I wait to seek medical help? I go in for some fasting blood work next week to get a thyroid panel done and a lipid profile. 3 months ago when I had my last panel done my TSH was .45. He said that was slightly 'hyper' but nothing to worry about as I was feeling really good. FWIW, I have only been on the pill for 2.5 months. I do not know the numbers on my T3 or T4, unfortunately. Any advice for me? TIA!

What is likely to happen is that you will swing hyper at first, and then dip very very hypo next, and then your body will level out at your regular (or slightly more) hypo state.
This will play havoc with how you feel, and if you adjust your medication before you level out (it'll prolly take about 2-4 months) then you'll be sorry because you'll just have to adjust again later.
You could be lucky if your pills had low estorgen and not notice much change, but prepare yourself for the worst.
That being said it's better to be off the pills so whatever you go through in doing it, it's worth it.

Not sure how to go about that. I appreciate your insight on this. You are very knowledgeable. I think I'm still somewhat in denial that I'll be medicated the rest of my life. I keep thinking this thyroid business is a temporary lull in the scheme of things. It's only slowly dawning on me how I need to take it seriously. Anyway, anymore insight would be great. Thanks!

I just wanted to let you know that when I was first tested for my thyroid, it came back that I was slightly Hyper too. (Totally ironic since during my pregnancy I gained so much weight and it wasn't from my diet!). The next time it was tested, it was hypo. My meds went up and down slightly through the years, but they have been stable.
From what I remember, it takes some time and fiddling to figure out what dose of meds is best.
I wish you the best of luck and I hope that you're feeling better soon!
Stacie
