Default What time of day do you take glucophage?

I've been on 1000mg of glucophage for about 7 weeks. I'm just starting to increase the dosage to 1500mg. My doctor said to take all three pills (1500mg) with dinner, which means I have some pretty bad side effects up until about lunch the following day. Is this what others are doing? I've noticed some people mention taking the pills throughout the day... do others have experiences with taking the 1500mg once per day v. 500mg at each meal?

I am taking 1500mg of metformin too and I take it in three 500mg doses. I take one when I have breakfast, one with lunch and then one with supper. Taking it that way I have had very few, if any, side effects.

Good luck!

I take 1000 mg/day, 500mg with breakfast and 500 mg with dinner. At four months on metformin, my side effects are almost completely gone.

I take 1500mg, all with lunch everyday. I only have a few side effects at this point, Metal taste in mouth and I don't want to eat very much. I was told to take them all at the same time by my dr.

Are you on glucophage or glucophage xr (the "extended release" version)?

As I understand it, if you are on glucophage xr, you take it all at once, because it will release itself slowly into your body throughout the day.

But if you are on the normal glucophage, it should be spread out throughout the day as your body gradually loses it from your system and it needs to be "topped up". I'd definately say 1500mgs would be too much to take at one time.

Hope this helps,

Charlotte

I'm up to 1000 mg now. I take one with bkfast and one with dinner. I try to take the pill in the middle of my meal (so it is cushioned around food) and with plenty of water--Oana told me about this and it has been good advice.

I have had hardly any s/e's except feeling a little hungrier and some mild gas and bloating.
