I was diagnosed as diabetic after being admitted to hospital with chest pains, it was thought I had a heart attack. Luckily I didn't but still suffer with angina pain which my Cardio dr thinks is down to the high BP and high Cholesterol levels. I was going for an echo and had my notes so read them and i saw that my glucose level was raised, so they did the GTT and luckily I only had 1 blood test taken and didnt have to drink whatever yucky stuff they give you to drink, as my blood and the urine sample I took in confirmed it.
Thinking back I was thirsty and needed to visit the bathroom a lot. When I went on the induction day for new diabetics we all had different symptoms which made us seek help. One woman kept falling asleep, another gentleman had to visit the bathroom more than usual, another person kept getting yeast infections...
I did suffer from blurred vision but put it down to the arthritis in my neck, and I forgot to add major weightloss, but I had increased my activity level and thought it was due to that...

I didn't have any symptoms. I did have blurry vision ocassionally, which was probably caused by high bs. I didn't get thirsty often, & I didn't have to go to the bathroom often. In fact it was the opposite. I went to the doctor complaining I couldn't lose weight so he tested me.

Officially diagnosed with PCOS in Feb. 2005. Also have Type 2 Diabetes & Hashimoto's Disease.
Currently taking 2000 mg Metformin, .112 mg Synthroid, 10 mg Lisinopril and 10 mg Lipitor.
Thirt was the major one for me, but at the time I thought nothing of it. I have had a couple blurry vision spells, but only a couple times and I was never worried about it at the time.

Age 27 Dx: PCOS in 1995 at age 13, Diabetes in October 2005 BFP: Nov. 17/09
I was just dx'd a few weeks ago and had frequent urination, excessive thirst, fatigue, unexplained weightloss (prior to actually starting my weightloss regimen I'm on), first ever yeast infections.
And yes, all of those I listed are common sxs of diabetes per the education class I went to last Friday!
I didn't have ANY symptoms. Though I wasn't surprised. I've had pre-diabetic level back as far as being a teenager and I was already diagnosed with PCOS and both of my parents are type II insulin dependant.

The LORD your God is with you, he is mighty to save. He will take great delight in you, he will quiet you with his love, he will rejoice over you with singing --Zephaniah 3:17
I went to the ER with shortness of breath and extreme swelling. They did a random glucose which came back as 166. They said to follow up right away with my PCP. I then had 2 high A1C tests 3 months apart, and was diagnosed. It wasn't till after that when I finally realized other symptoms I had (extreme fatigue, difficult weight loss, thirst, frequent urination) were most likely because of the Type 2.

I just thought for a long time that i was Hypoglycemic, my fasting BS where always within normal limits but i would be shaking and ready to pass out when they would be drawing my blood. they told me that i was fine, when i did the GTT that showed that i was Diabetic. my OB said i have some of the signs of Syndrome X also. but mostly it was the dizzy ness that occured after not eating for a while that was my S/S
The reason I got tested for diabetes was because I kept getting the chills at night, after dinner before bed. I always felt like my face was flushed like I had a fever, but never actually HAD a fever. I had absolutely no energy, was always thirsty, and had incredibly bad mood swings and headaches that were recurring. When I had my sugar tested in the ER, it was 463. The doctor there said I could have been in a coma, or dead. I was terrified.
So, he tells me I'm diabetic, and to see another doc, and sends me home empty handed. I could have smacked him! What in hell was I supposed to do now, I wondered.
Not having insurance, I called up a clinic that used a sliding pay scale and worked off of my income alone. It was very cheap and convenient. They tested my fasting sugar level and also the damage to my kidneys. Both were terrible, which scared me even more. They got me set up with a monitor, testing supplies and started me on Glucotrol.
NOW, I've moved out of state and haven't taken any Glucotrol in over eight months. I need to see someone but it's just finding and starting all that over again that I hate. I need motivation!
(hey, you didn't ask for my life story did ya? Sorry 'bout that....)
I first noticed that some hairs growing thicker on my chin. I looked up excessive facial hair online and learned about PCOS. I then read that PCOS and diabetes were linked, so I read the symptoms of Hyperglycemia. (diabetes). I freaked out and made an appt. the following week. My fasting blood sugar was 180.
Some of my symptoms were:
irritability
excessive thirst (i always drink about 3+ tall glasses of water at dinnertime at least)
urinating all the time (especially at night)
My sugars have gotten worse over the last year. I just had a baby 5 months ago, and it seems as if the sugar levels have gotten higher after having the baby. I am back on insulin, but only one injection each morning. The insulin lasts 24 hours.
It sucks. I hate having diabetes. I can never eat anything fun. Thank god for Splenda.

My eyesight got terrible, and I was drinking around 10 liters of water a day and going to the bathroom every 20 minutes without fail. I went to the doctor and my blood sugar was through the roof! So he diagnosed me, then me and my mother went for my last ever McDonalds! (probably not a good idea looking back)
