Anxiety and transient parasthesia (occasional pins and needles in various body parts). That's about it! I'm not an extreme case though.

Here is my list, basically the same as everyone else's except I took a few things off. My thyroid was tested in 2006 with a level of 1.57, or so they said... 2 years later it was almost a 6 so still not real out of whack but that is extreme after 2 years. After levothyroxin its down to 3.45 now.

Fatigue
Difficulty losing weight/overweight
Hair loss ( falls out in gobs all the time)
Cold intolerance (can't tolerate the cold like those around me)
Irritability / Mood instability ( horribel mood swings)
Abnormal menstrual cycles ( every 6-8 weeks when not on meds )

Thin, brittle fingernails and hair
Water retention
Anxiety/Depression

It's hard to tell the difference between hypothyroid and pcos

How long before Synthroid kicked in for you?
Anything to avoid foodwise? I know about taking it on an empty stomach.

It took 6-8 weeks for me to feel better after taking the Synthroid. I haven't really avoided any food and most of the time I forget to take it on an empty stomach--but that probably explains why they kept increasing my dose!

Have you started it yet?

Yes I did start Synthroid yesterday. My level was 5.7. At least the doc gave me a choice, do I want to take it now or wait until my Jan apt with her? So I decided to start taking it. My dosage is 75. What is yours? It's nice to be able to talk about this with other people since medication is fairly new to me, and I'm 53.

I started out at 50 mcg but I've worked my way up to 150 mcg--and that is where I've been for the last several years. I hope it works for you!

Hey Janny! I was wondering if it was the same you here and there! You know me by another name @ ILJ.

It takes a while for your body to build up the levels of synthroid in your system. It took me a while to feel better.I know at first my doc did blood tests every 3 months. By then your body has had time to adjust to the meds. For me I had to work my way from 50 mcg up to 125. I feel better most days but when I am not it is because of the pcos. When you see your doctor next let him/her know if you are feeling better, worse or the same. Other than taking it on an empty stomach I haven't been told to avoid any food because of the synthroid. Just make sure you take it at approx. the same time every day and wait at least 4 hours before taking any other meds or vitamins.
