Go in with TONS of printed out research. I made a whole folder on why I needed met and how it is totally common treatment for PCOS. My doctor never even looked at it but knew I knew what I was talking about and believed me and in two minutes I had a script in my hand for 3 mos worth of met. The doctor before though had told me 'to just lose weight'. If your Gyno doesnt turn out to be an idiot, you should not have any resistance. Also, make it known to them that PCOS is a diet that affects insulin and you are probably insulin resistant and that met would help tremendously. Met is also given to women without IR because it regulates periods.
Dont be afraid to be a bit pushy and if the doctor refuses-- Go find an endo who has treated PCOS, someone will give it to you eventually. It took me a while, but I finally got it! YAY! Good luck with the doc, be armed with lots of info!
