Default What worked for me after trying tons of things

Hello ladies, I am new to posting on this site but not to reading posts and findings on here. After a year of trying different supplements/foods/teas/ etc. I finally found a regime that has worked for me! Not only did it bring on periods regularly and naturally, but it decreased my facial acne, body hair, weight, and scalp hair loss. I'm just wanting to share the goo d news that has happened for me!
Here is what I've found to be the most beneficial. I have done most of my own research, but I've also worked with my friend who is a DOM (doctor of oriental medicine)
Nordic Naturals Ultimate Omega-3 caps- 2 caps twice daily
Health From the Sun Evening Primrose Oil caps- 1 cap 3 times daily
Barlean's High Lignan Flax Seed Oil liquid- 1 or 2 tablespoons daily on salad or straight
Alive! Multi-Vitamin Shake-usually every other morning as a breakfast replacement. I don't drink it more that once daily or every other day because of the high vitamin A content as well as it contains some Nettle leaf (personal preference)
Carlson Labs Vitamin D3 2000 I.U caps- 2 a day
Country Life Choline/Inositol 500mg tabs- 1 a day
Enzymatic Therapy Femtrol caps- 2 caps 3 times a day
finally... and I think most important is I take 2 Milk Thistle Caps with Silymarin standardized to 80% at night before bed
1 bag of Traditional Medicinals Organic Spearmint tea and 1 bag of Triple Leaf Tea Co. Sugar Balance/Women's Tonic tea in same mug every morning and afternoon

Diet changes I've learned to make:
eat salmon, shrimp, and sardines for fish- look for no salt or low salt varieties, natural/organic when possible, and avoid tuna, shark, or king mackerel
Eat skinless, boneless chicken breast baked only
Eat only certain fruits including apples, pears, and all berries. eat fruit with protein and/or fat at meals
Veggies such as the all-important brocolli, kale, spinach, onions, garlic, celery, arugula
I've made my own salad dressing consisting of organic olive oil, organic apple cider vinegar, black pepper, onion and garlic powders, and i put hot pepper powder for alittle kick
NEVER HEAT ANY OILS ESPECIALLY OLIVE OIL, only coconut oil is suitable for frying or baking, coconut oil also has good fat and good saturated fat
I do not drink any milk whatsoever! I use only Unsweetened Almond Milk and Unsweetened Coconut Milk Beverage!
Mrs. Dash seasonings are my best friends!
I've learned to sprout. Sprouting increases nutrient profile of the food, and once you get the hang of it, it's easy! I only sprout lentils, brocolli seeds, and quinoa. I use them as garnish on top of salads or in wraps.

Excercise has mainly been walking, using free weights, and occassionally using an elliptical.

This is just my story of success using this regimen and based on my own trial and error. Good luck to everyone ! Please let me know if you've tried any of these things too and what result you had from it!

Well, I think the 3 things that made the quickest improvement on acne, body hair, and energy were the spearming tea, Enzymatic Therapy Femtrol Caps, and Milk Thistle. I think it took about a good month to see the difference. I read a great article (can't remember the title) that spoke about taking care of the liver and how to protect it and get it in good condition. It also pointed out that if your liver is any bit sluggish (mine was and most of our livers are) that excess estrogen and other used hormones litterally stick in the liver because the liver is not cabable of detoxifying and ridding them or because the liver is sluggish it is doing it at a slow pace. THis means more estogen and other hormones are available in the body for possible conversion to testosterone/DHT/cortisol, etc. and also could possibly contribute to estrogen dominance symptoms. All of these could have an impact on our PCOS with weight problems, acne, and hair growth/loss. My last liver enzyme lab work (about a year ago) showed a did infact have slightly elevated enzymes, and since being on this regimen of eating clean and the milk thistle, my recent lab work shows I have enzymes in the normal range. Just something to think about!

Candyjimmymilly,
I noticed you are also drinking spearmint tea twice daily. Tea bags did help me but only to a point, I noticed the most improvement when I made my own tea using loose spearmint leaves and hot boiling water. Also, I drank more than 2 cups daily if I could. I usually would make a big pitcher full (like in an iced tea pitcher) of spearmint tea and kept that in the fridge and had a glass whenever I could.

Holy Moly!! I give you kudos for your accomplishment, but man that is a lot of supplements to keep track of! I have a hard enough time to remember my metformin...

Yes, it is a lot of supplements. But that is what seemed to get my body in sync. I would rather take these supplements than take prescription drugs, and I knew I had to do something, so I guess it's tons of tea and supplements :-)

Hi Roxie,

Out of all those supplements which are the ones that you would recommend the most? I don't think I could afford all of them.

Also can I ask what the link is between Spearmint tea and PCOS?

Did you lose any weight?

I am going to see what the english equivalents are.

Thank-you for the post. Only a couple of days on this site and I already feel inspired.

I'd like to know, as well. Oddly enough, I have been craving mint tea. I went to the tea shoppe the other day and ordered a large mint tea, two tea bags, and the person was like "green tea and mint" and I said "no. two mints." And he kept trying to argue with me, and finally I just said "Look, buddy, I want my tea to taste like a big stick of gum made liquid. Now can you just put two mint tea bags in that tall cup and add hot water so I can get on my merry way?" He finally listened. But it was humorous for my friend who was watching.

The link with spearmint tea and pcos is that tea made with the leaves from the mint family (spearmint, peppermint) are said to lower free-androgens in the bloodstream. They say spearmint works better than peppermint though. I have found most luck with buying the loose spearmint leaves and making my own tea from them.
I would say the best things to do on a budget for pcos: lose weight (if you are overweight) by sticking to high protein and low glycemic load carbs (beans, lentils, etc.) Also, I think that the Femtrol really works, and chromium (600mg once daily) since most of us with pcos of can have normal fasting blood glucose yet be silently insulin resistant!! Hope this helps :-)
