I will tell you what worked for me. I had "slender" PCOS in my teens and twenties (meaning I had no overweight problems) but had the other pcos issues, particularly hairloss. What worked for me was aldactone 100 mg (now taking 200 mg) and the ovcon 35 bcp in combination. It was like magic in stopping the hairloss and allowing regrowth to occur. When I went off the birth control pill, my doc kept me on aldactone until I found out I was pregnant, then I stopped taking it. Pregnancy effects on hair were....scalp hair .... no effect at all.... pubic hair grew like a forest !!! then thankfully fell out after giving birth. I used rogaine for awhile but I'm not sure it did anything. I use different things now but when I was your age it was the aldactone and the right bcp that saved my hair.
wow, I am so confused, I do need help though thats for sure.........

my hair was great when pregnant too. didn't get full and thick like it used to be, but it dramatically stopped falling out. now it seems to be even worse than before.

Gravitysangel,
Thank you so much for all of your advise. My hair has been shedding like crazy and it's so nice to hear that someone has had good results.
Nothing has worked for me unfortunately. I have very severe hair loss in that I barely have any hair on my head at all now. I shaved the last remaining clumps off last September and wear a wig. Nioxin did not help me and I used it for a longggg time *years*. I know that it has helped some women who did not have hormone related hair loss as it really clears the scalp of chemicals and over treated/processed hair products. Nizoral helps to cut down on the itching and greasiness that drive me crazy - my scalp tends to look like a shiney bowling ball otherwise.

Flutamide- It's worked wonders for me. I started in June. The shedding has stopped and I have regrowth on top and at temples. It has made such a difference. I hope that you find something that works for you.

Medications and Supps listed on my profile.
Nothing has worked except replacing my thyroid hormone!
Edited to add: The only things I tried were Dexamethasone (for high DHEAS), BCPs to keep the testosterone in check, and Nioxin shampoo.

I am really surprised at how well Nioxin has worked for me - I really didn't expect it. My hairdresser suggested I try it, and I've been using it for about four months now. I use the shampoo, the conditioner, and the scalp treatment. About a month ago, I started noticing all kinds of regrowth of hair, about 1" long, throughout the top of my hair and on my temples. I'm so excited!
I got my hair cut and colored yesterday, and my hairdresser said that Nioxin works for a lot of people, but not everyone. She said that it's really important to use not just the shampoo, but also the conditioner and the scalp treatment.
My only problem with Nioxin is that it's kind of expensive - but since it seems to work I'm happily spending the money!!!
Also, I'm taking metformin, and my thyroid levels FINALLY getting better. So that may have something to do with it too!

pregnancy can play tricks with your hair too. my first pg, my hair was lovely, my second pg, my hair was limp and lifeless. both my pregnancies, i had hair fall 3 months after birth.
i came to this site a few months back due to excess hair fall and receding hair line. thanks to all the lovely information i got here, i am currently on prenatal vitamins, kordels multi for women (stronger b complex), amino acids, and vitex and ayurvedic topical treatment for hair since 2 months.
since a month i have started spirulina, codliver oil. past 2 days i have started with a fertility blend and milk thistle.
in 2months alhamdullilah, i have noticed hair on my temples and hair line and also hair growing on the scalp. the scalp hair is still fine, and since i have curly hair, it kind of covers it up. but thankfully the hair is growing, right now they are an inch long. i can see them sticking out from the partitions.

i personally believe,we all need to live in peace within ourselves, so we try to learn and u nderstand others, and live in peace with all around us.
i dont think you should do anything right now for you hair while being pregnant.
you may have to wait it out and see how it works out.
some have more hair fall after childbirth, you just need to see how your body takes it. you may not have any hair fall either, cant say.
i screwed up my hair during my second pregnancy by using a lot of hot iron for my hair and loads of stress a year after child birth and, i see the results now.

i *think* my shedding is finally slowing down, and the thing that is slowing it down is thyroid replacement. i am also noticing tiny, little short hairs along my hairline and scalp... so i do think the replacement is working.
i've also tried nioxin, but i didn't use it long enough to see if it worked b/c it dried my hair out terribly. i also find that washing and conditioning daily with a quality product helps to give some body to the hair i do have left.
