Default what would make it so you can't have a kid?

What kind of genetic problems could you have that would make it very unlikely that we should be able to have a kid? We have to go see a geneticist, and he'll tell us if there is anything wrong with Eric's genes. They don't think there is, and it should be no problem to have more, we'd just have to get pg. That would be the only problem.
I just want to know, b/c I want to prepare myself, and not be caught off guard again, like we were when we were told about Eric.
Thanks in advance.

Eric James, our angel was born 12/13/05. He died from birth defects called Limb-Body Wall Complex. He was too perfect for this world.

Anyone can tell you it won't hurt tomorrow but I'm here to listen while it hurts today.

since eric's trouble didn't appear to be genetic, it would be safe to assume that you could conceive another normal baby. there are plenty of genetic problems, but you wouldn't have had a healthy boy if you were doomed by one of those issues. it never hurts to have some knowledge, but don't let it overwhelm you. it is still very early in your grief journey, so it's easy to make assumptions of the worst, etc. try to take it all as simply information and work out how it feels later. i wish you a future of joy with living children, but please give yourselves some time to heal. ((hugs))

I'm sorry, I'm a complete idiot. My son's organs were on the outside, and his skull didn't cover his brain. They think his birth defects were caused by Amniotic Banding Syndrome, which is an accident that happens to your sac. The chances of it happening again are so small. The chances of it happening ever are really small. My Dr. at the hospital said that he'd seen it 2 or three times, and the mortician said he'd never seen it. The Dr. I'm talking about said he's seen it, but that's his job.
They were just making sure it wasn't genetic, so we could have more. I just wanted to prepare myself. I don't want to go in blindly, you know? I want to know what kinds of things he might tell me, if it's bad news.
