She said it was the best book she had because it wasn't organized like the others, and it was easy to find things that may not have been in the developmental stage that most books expect things to happen it.

Oxiclean, it gets EVERYTHING out of his clothing...
Burp Clothes, and plenty of them esp. if you are FF, I use them ALL DAY
Mylicon, its a GODSEND...Except you can buy walmart brand and its a ton cheaper. For 1 ounce of Mylicon its almost $11, where as the Walmart brand is $3.67...Its the same exact thing, just not name brand...

They are gas drops and they work wonderfully. It is much much cheaper to get the Walmart brand! DITTO on that!! LOL If you are breastfeeding....its even a greater reason to have it!! =) Also...make sure diaper bag is loaded with an extra one...along with Infant Tylenol. I also love the diapers trash rolls you can buy. They are good for your diaper bag when your out and there maybe no where to place a stinky diaper..... the clip onto your diaper bag and usually come scented. They are good to tie up the diaper and dispose of later!!

After working at BRU and seeing the different diaper pails, if you're going to use one, I would HIGHLY recommend a Diaper Champ. They are great at keeping the smell contained, don't require special refills and you use your own garbage bags in them. We used our Diaper Genie with DD for poopy diapers and threw the pee pee diapers in the garbage and took it out daily. For the past 6 months, it's been in storage, so we put the diapers inside the plastic grocery/Walmart bags and twist them up, double them over and tie them up. They go in the garbage, which is taken out either daily or every other day. It works just as well or better than the Diaper Genie.

My Mood: Points: 5,633.57 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 5,633.57 | a room thermometer and a bath thermometer were essentials for me, because how did I know what to dress the baby in to sleep otherwise?! And on that front, we had bought several sleep bags and never used any of them because we swaddled DS. You have to be careful how many layers you put newborns in, they actually overheat pretty easily.
BIG receiving blankets so you can use them as swaddling blankets. We actually specifically bought blankets made to swaddle the baby because we couldn't find receiving blankets big enough and there is a brand of muslin sold here in the UK - Big Muz which was a lifesaver - breathable and perfect to swaddle babies in, even in the summer.
We have the womb bear but I was really annoyed at the fact that it would stop making noise after five minutes at which point DS would start crying again. We downloaded white noise off of itunes and put it on a loop. DS still sleeps to that a year later.
That breast friend pillow is the best. I've never understood how the boppy works, doesn't the baby roll in towards you or away? With the breast friend the top is flat and the baby can lay comfortably at your boob. I wish they sold extra covers for it because I never had the time between feeds to wash it and it got really grotty, it was seriously a panic to wash it and get it back on the pillow for the next feed... I'm going to have to find an extra cover or buy another one this time around.
I had a c section and am not sure what I would have done with that peri bottle... I didn't have any pain "down there" afterwards. But I did have a magnifying mirror that came in handy. You need to be careful to keep your stitches dry and clean while you heal. Its hard to see because you'll have... umm, belly overhang over the stitches while you recuperate from being pregnant! so I needed that mirror to inspect the stitches and some cotton balls to keep the scar/stitches clean and dry.
I didn't have one of those soft wrap your baby on to the front of you type slings with DS and could now see how useful it would be. So much more comfy for them in the beginning than a bjorn and easier on your back. I'm going to get one.
Good nail files... I didn't use the nail clippers until much much later, filing is the easiest way to go and I never had to put any mitts on DS because he never had any sharp edges or nails to scratch himself with.
Bouncy chair was great and then the bumbo when he could hold himself up a bit.
DS hated the swing.

My Mood: Points: 13,565.24 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 13,565.24 | We have the diaper champ mostly because I was utterly inept at figuring out the diaper genie at my friend's house (twist and push and down, huh?). To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 10 or greater. You currently have 0 posts. It works fine. But we only use it for changes in DD's nursery. When we change her elsewhere in the house, the diaper goes in the trash, but we have a trash compactor, so no odor there. I would say if you have a garbage can with secure-sealing lid, that would do just as well as a diaper champ or genie.

My Mood: Points: 12,533.68 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 12,533.68 | bonbon--They do sell extra covers for the Brest Friend pillow now (at least in the States). I have heard that pillow is great. I actually have it AND the Boppy, both of which I got from friends, to try out. I imagine I'll use the Brest Friend to feed but she might like to sit up in or lay on the Boppy.
We have the Diaper Genie II which is supposed to be better because you don't have to do the twist thing. But we shall see. Only a few more weeks til I can give Mommy advice!
