Default What is your all time favourite book (s)?

I just love to read (when I get the time!!) but sometimes I get a little stuck with what to read, especially when I'm hanging for a really good book. What's everyone's favourite books on the 'must read before you die' list??

I LOVE books too Deb, and it seems most of the other Aussie/Kiwi cysters. Although I am a bit boring, my favourites are nothing new. Memoirs of a Geisha, the Harry Potter series and April Fools Day. Maybe if I thought about it for a bit longer, I could think of some other more original titles. I went to the library the other day and got a Virginia Andrews book, they are always an easy read, particularly with a young family. My sister Stacey has been raving about Wally Lamb books. Hang on I will SMS her. I go to the library and have a complete mental blank. Stacey just replied and the Wally Lamb title is 'I know this much is true'. She says it is on par with Memoirs of a Geisha.
Donna.

COOL!!!

It's hard to think of your favourites off the top of your head... I like the Jean Auel books (clan of the cave bear). I know I have a lot of fav's but it's hard to remember them. I wish you could keep a log of what you've taken out of the library previously. For years I've been meaning to write a 'must read' list, but never got round to it (hence this post).

I love reading books,I just got a few new books given to me for my Birthday. I finally got 'the Constant Princess' by Philipa Gregory. I have read most of her other books and really enjoy the way she create one small part of history into fiction. I only started reading the book on Monday and have already got about 3/4 of the way through it though other jobs have not been done around the house this week opps. The Other author on my must read list is Marve Binchy. I cant think of the titles at the moment sorry

Then I also really enjoy Jane Austin. My Favourite would be Pride and Prejudice.

I love the Jean Auel series too. I will have to read them again soon.

I love anything by Joanne Harris - her first was Chocolat, then there has been Blackberry Wine, Five Quarters of the Orange and Holy Fools. She prob has more out come to think of it.

I love all of the ones by Paullina Simons - Tully, Red Leaves, 11 Hours but I love love love The Bronze Horseman and The Bridge to Holy Cross. I also loved the third one in that series(the summer garden) but not as much as the other two.

I am sure there is more but gott a go put the little fella down for his nap!

My favourite book of all time is The Day of the Triffids by John Wyndham. I'm not a huge science fiction fan, but that book has been my favourite since I was 14.

I love any of Ruth Park's books. Anything by Douglas Adams, he makes me laugh out loud. The John Marsden Tomorrow When the War Began series. (I'm thrilled that he's continuing them).

But my favourite Aussie book of all time is Cloudstreet by Tim Winton. I just fell in love, love, love in that book, mostly with Quick and Rose, but almost all of the characters. I read Dirt Music first and really loved it, and then I was recommended Cloudstreet and just loved it.

I have too many favourites to list.....some are:
The Power of One - Bryce Courntney
Jessica - "
Most of the Marian Keyes books - especially 'Watermelon', 'Lucy Sullivan is Getting Married' and 'Rachel's Holiday'. I've got all of them if you ever want to borrow them anyone!
I also LOVE Wally Lamb - faves are 'She's Come Undone' and 'I Know This Much Is True'.
I haven't read much lately - watching too much tv! I've been meaning to read Tim Winton for ages (I'm a big fan/supporter of Aussie authors).....I think he should be next on my list.

Read him Amy, read him! He's DELIGHTFUL!

Kate Grenville is very good too, but I found The Secret River a very heavy subject, it made me quite sad, but it was well worth reading.
