I read recently that the dosage for people with subclinical hypothyroidism should be approx 1 mcg per kg of body weight and that those with hypothyroidism should be taking approx 1.7 mcg per kg of body weight.
Of course, it all comes down to what dose controls your symptoms. I'm up to 75 mcg and may bump up to 100 and see what happens.

Hello,
I am on Synthroid and I am taking 175 mcg a day. I started out on 50 and have slowly increased to 175. I feel so much better.

I just started on Synthroid last week, I'm taking 25 mcg, my level was 3.71, it had increased over the past year and a half from 2.53 to 2.94 then 3.71. Labs around here are still using the old scale of 0.25-5 as normal, so I had to convince the dr to give it to me.
Hi I am brand new here and need some support. After my fourth m/c in November while being treated for a newly discovered blood clotting disorder, we started working with a specialist through my OB. Just had my first panel of labs done the last two days and got a call from my Dr. that my TSH came back at 18.8. They started me on 50 mcg of Levothroxine today. I am wondering if when you started meds that weight started coming off. I have to hope this will happen as recently breathing seems to cause weight gain.
Thanks for the help. Tami

For me, the weight didn't come off once I started taking synthroid. I think it did keep me from rapidly gaining more. Hypothyroidism can make you feel tired and can keep you from being as active. (I think this can make you gain weight as well). Once you start taking meds, and they kick in, you will feel A LOT better!

Hmm, I've done quite a lot of research (or so I thought) on PCOS, and I didn't even know there was any connection. It probably doesn't help that both my grandma and grandpa have hypothyroidism, though.
I've been on 25mcg for the past 2 or 3 years (as long as I've been diagnosed). Just got 'poked' in mid-May and it's still in check.

I am currently taking 150mg until the beginning of August, I get re-checked for levels and then the Dr will adjust it accordingly!

Hi. Is anyone on anything (or tried anything) other than Synthroid or generic Synthroid? I felt like another poster (tlichten) who said that it felt like breathing was causing her to gain weight after taking her thyroid med. I think I've definitely gotten more of an appetite since I started in Dec. 2006 but this is NOT good. I've gained back all the weight I lost when I was on Met (for a year and nine months - quit in Aug. 2006).
I keep wondering if I should go back on Met since my endo thinks I should use a cholesterol medicine. I'm definitely going to avoid this at all costs as the side effects of statins are horrible. My cholesterol appeared to drop when on Met and although I didn't get tested when I went off of Met, two months later, my cholesterol #s were fairly good (as opposed to what my normal #s are).
I'm also wondering if my thyroid med is getting converted properly. I'm planning on asking for another test (free T3) to determine this - see if it's low.
