50mcg for about 1/2 a year now... started at 25 mcg but it is NOT working at 50. I just made an appt. to get rechecked and get a new Rx. I am bone tired AGAIN!
I just started 25mcg of Levothryoxin yesterday. He didn't tell me what my levels were and dummy me didn't think to ask. Obviously, they're not too far off since my dosage is so low. That should be a relief, but now I feel like there's something else wrong since my levels weren't "that" messed up.

Hi. This is for Lullaby Dreams. Thanks for letting us know what's going on. Don't be too discouraged about not asking for info. It's not too late to call your doctor's office and ask for a copy of your labwork to be sent to you. Actually, having a record of all of your labs will prove to be very useful.
I noticed in your meds info. that you listed soy isoflavones. I'm not an expert by any means on thyroid info. . . . one of the reasons I'm still asking questions of just about anyone with thyroid and/or PCOS issues . . . however, I read some info. by Mary Shomon who said that eating soy products are not good for the thyroid. I understand that fermented soy as in soy sauce is okay. I'd read somewhere else that broccoli uncooked is not so good for the thyroid but cooked is okay (a big relief since we eat a lot of cooked broccoli at my house).
I hope it goes well w/getting your labs.
Blessings,
Pam

I think I read that article and I am fairly certain that you have to be eating very large quantities of soy and raw broccoli for it to affect your thyroid. Eating foods that contain soy shortly after taking your Synthroid (or other thyroid hormone) can affect its absorption into your body, thus causing your body to not get the needed amount.
Edited to add:
A quote from the article:
Quote:
America's leading alternative doctor, Dr. Andrew Weil, has said about soy, at his Ask Dr. Weil website "…you're unlikely to get too many isoflavones as a result of adding soy foods to your diet -- but you probably will take in too much if you take soy supplements in pill form. At this point, I can only recommend that you avoid soy supplements entirely."

Hi pbvoice! As mommavia posted, I believe it has to be huge quantities over time. I only take soy isoflavones for 5 days at the beginning of my cycle to HOPEFULLY bring on ovulation.
Thank you for the reminder to call my doctor's office. I'm going to do that right now!
Thank you both for responding. I hope y'all have a wonderful day!

I take 112 mcg's/day. Need to have my TSH rechecked.
Three months after being Dx with hypothyroidism and starting synthroid, we conceived our son! At the time he was conceived, I was only on 75 mcg's. During the pregnancy, I was on 88 mcg's. Then after I delivered, I went back to 50 mcg's and have crept up (along with my wt) to my current dose since then.

Synthroid 125 mcg QD
Metformin XR 750mg BID
I started on 50 mcg in 2006 and got pregnant 2 months later--yay me! The pregnancy affected my levels though, so my endo increased from 50 to 75 to 88 mcg by the end of my pregnancy. Unfortunately, my levels got worse after the baby was born (in January), so now I'm up to 100 mcg.

I was tried on 75mcg and then to 100mcg and have been steady at 100mcg Synthroid for four years now. I get tested once or twice a year and it's never changed.
My mother has about zero thyroid function and is on 150mcg synthroid.
WHERE is everyone getting this information about taking soy for O????
WHERE did you get this tip on SOY for ovulation, just curious??? Did an actual DR, thyroid, or fertility specialist recommend it??? I have asked this question many times and NO ONE will answer. And if you direct me to a page at SC where someone suggested using soy for O is the same idea as using Clomid, I would then have to ask where did that original poster get the info from??? I mean if someone told you jumping off a bridge would make you O . . .. . would you do it???? NO, of course not! So where does this info come from???
I only hope for the best for all of us with PCOS AND thyroid disease and hope that those TTC will all get those much desired BFPs. I am by NO MEANS trying to ruffle anyones feathers or upset or even offend anyone about this at all nor am I saying that it doesn't work in any way . . . . I am just wondering WHERE is the scientific evidence to back up this theory - I would love to read all about it and become more informed. All the research I have done on soy states its not so great for female OR male fertility health and anything I've ever read that disputes that has been published by companies that manufacture/produce soy products.
Like the previous posters, I've read lots of info regarding soy & thyroid issues. I was told by my DR to be VERY careful of how much soy I consume which is difficult because it is in so many products on the market today, but I do pretty good at reading labels & avoiding all those products. I even believe that one of the many contributors to having thyroid disease, for myself, is because overconsumming soy all these years.
I hope someone can finally give me concrete proof, actual scientific studies/tests, that soy is indeed good for O induction. I would love to know more about it & would NEVER, myself, take a pure soy product with Hashimoto's disease/Hypothyroidism. NOT on CD 3-7 or CD 5-9 or even one day out of any cycle!!!
Best wishes to all those out there TTC with PCOS & thyroid problems - its tough!!!

I was diagnoised with hypothryroidsim about three weeks ago. My TSH level was 10.4.
My NP is pretty conservative and decided to try me out at .25 mcg of Synthroid. I have felt so much worse every since -- way more exhaused and fatigued than before along with this nauseating vibration all over my body.
Another cyster mentioned that being on too low a dose of Synthroid can actually accentuate your symptoms.
Being on too low a dose for a long period of time can cause your hypo symptoms to seem more severe, but 3 weeks should not be doing that. Are you taking it on an empty stomach? Sometimes that can make you feel really crappy if you do.
I would contact your NP to get some labs done to see where your levels are at, even though it's only been 3 weeks. If it's working, your levels should be heading in the right direction (TSH going down).
Hang in there! It can take some time, but you'll get on the right dose and feeling great soon!!

I am taking it without food, only because the directions tell me to take it 1/2 hour to 1 hour before eating anything.
I'm having blood work on Monday to see if my levels have changed at all. She'll then decide if my dose needs to be increased. I'll ask her if I can start taking it with food.
