Default What is your MAX dose of Spiro?

I am 100lbs and was just started on spiro at 100mg/day.

Wondering if anyone who is also around 100lbs needed more than 100mgs of spiro a day for effectiveness?
Most of the studies show that women had the greatest result when on 200mgs of spiro a day. BUT I am certain that most of the women were over 200lbs as most cysters are.

I want to increase my dose to 200mg but do not want to if it is not necessary.

Thanks!!!

I'm 269 and I'm on 150mg. This has worked great for me, and 100 worked great when I was on it too. I did try 200, but I felt very fatigued and dehydrated. It was pretty rough.

I'm 135 lbs and I take 50 mgs a day and I *love* it. I don't think I need any more. I just have the extra hair issue - no hair loss. So I don't know if I'd need more if my hair was thinning or not.

Question

Sorry to get off the subject, but I'm curious what Spiro is? Is that just another med they use to treat PCOS? I have been seeing it alot on here, just curious. I'm on metformin.

It's a medcine that's really a "potassium-spaing diuretic used to treat congestive heart failure or high blood pressure" (I have my literature sitting on my desk so I just typed that out from there) but it's used in PCOS patients to treat the excess hair plus the hair loss.

Spiro is an androgen blocker which binds testosterone at the root of the hair follicle, preventing new, male pattern hair growth from forming. Google spironolactone and PCOS and you'll find a ton of information.

I was just prescribed Spiro at 50mg 2x daily. I am new to it, so I don't know yet if it is not enough or too much, or what to expect from taking it.

I weigh 130 lb (lost 15 lb since Jan...YAY!!), and i just increased my dose to 100 mg yesterday. So far, so good as far as side effects go. I don't see any improvement in the hairloss whatsoever, but I have not been on it long enough.

I wish I did not have to wait until July to see if I should increase the dose again.
I am hoping that 100 mg will be it for me.
I don't know if there is any correlation between body weight and the effective dose of spiro. It matters for some drugs, but not sure about this one.
