May I ask your age alisha? I am going to be 37 in a couple of weeks and I have been spotting and vaguely bleeding for 18 days too. My hormones are out of whack, but I'm told mine could be from Atpyia (spelling). Where cells keep the spotting going, and they eventually turn into cancer. Way to start of a monday huh?
Your heavier bleeding could be perimenopausal. Have you asked about it?
3 mths? I think that's my longest bleed. I've also gone 6 or so mths w/o a period at all.
It's been a while since my period have been that out of wack *knock on wood, twice* once I figured out that there were things I could do/stop doing to help regulate myself & actually did it.
*I take cinnamon too, I just incorperate it into my meals/drinks daily. The powder I sprinkle it in my cereal, on my toast, etc. And I put a cinnamon stick in my tea while it's warm, chill it & take the stick out before drinking it. *I cut out alot of my refined sugar, I use honey in my tea, baking, etc. Also honey is better than sugar for weigh loss. *I cut out soda altogether (I drank way too much Mt.Dew). *I switched to whole grain wheat breads & cereals, pastas, brown rice. Nothing that's been bleached or refined. *Skim milk instead of whole. *I drink ALOT more water than I used to. *Only fresh or frozen veggies nothing canned. *Only farm meats, nothing from the grocery store.
I'm on my way to an unrefined, fresh food, unprecessed diet.

Hi,
I only just turned 30 so its not perimenopausal...but I have been scaring myself to death at night about a cancer scare. Can you elaborate on what your doc said?
trolkin that is eactly like i was. at first i thought i was miscarrying because i was passing fist size clots then it lightened up to golf ball size but never stopped. now the doc keeps saying you need to shed your lining, it could turn into cancer if you don't shed it. i have even said to her (and feel much better about it afterwards) after a year i don't think there can be more lining! apparently my cyst is leukial and causes bleeding. i just started again today after two weeks off and am cramping like crazy. it is already getting heavy and i am sooooo not ready for it!!!!

well. that's scary isn't it. I bet this is why menopausal women get hysterectomies sometimes. I am told the cancer is slow to grow, but that it is typically contained. So they remove the uterus before it goes anywhere. Andto boot - Women have such little research dedicated to them. It's pretty sad.
Annesian - So are you scheduled for a biopsy to check for atypia? I bled for 3 months, stopped for 3 weeks and now I'm spotting. Been to the gyno twice and both times she has chalked it up to hormones. I am significantly overweight and she says that once I lose some weight my cycles should regulate. I myself am concerned about atypia/hyperplasia and when I asked the dr about it she said that's something to worry about later, she said "what makes you think your lining is thick" and I said because I'm bleeding a lot and she said hormones, hormones, hormones. I think I would feel better with a biopsy but she says it's unecessary, it's still worrisome though. The only thing I can do is take birth control but I have already been down that route and got blood clots so no more hormones for me. I think I will give it a while longer and then maybe go for a second opinion. Good luck with everything.
This is all so scary...to be so out of control of our bodies. My gyno hasnt called me back and my bleeding seems to be getting worse, very clotty. Like I mentioned earlier its been 18 days and as far as I know Im in perfect health, Im thin I exercise & have a good diet. Reading the posts above make me nervous and yes it angers me that not enough studies are done on women! I wish you all the best of health. Im so grateful not to be alone and to hear all of your stories.
So for whatever weird reason, I bled dark red yesterday morning, then barely spotted. Now it's been 18+ hours with no spotting. I am hoping this ordeal is over, but time will tell.
As for the atypia test, I will make an appointment this week to get it checked out. My doctor believes I had another miscarriage, which would explain the long days of spotting, then 4 days of moderate spotting (needed a pad) and now the ending of it. The bleeding was identical to the bleeding I had in June when we were about to lose our son, then the same afterwards. Took me 17 daysto recover from the bleeding afterwards.
What really scared me was finding out that a pap doesn't show uterine cancer cells. So many women go on with life holding a normal pap result test proudly - assuming they are ok.
We need to push for uterine testing. We already have the CA-125 blood test to measure cancer antigens for ovarian cancer, but we need more. We are complex and need more research. Men get most of the research, but we are the ones most missed by our children when we are sick or gone. It's so sad, and I don't mean to be depressing here, but something's gotta give.
Is not that we don't have the research is that the insurance companies consider this infertility and not just body health.
My O.B. stated that he could do my surgery and the insurance would probably pay for it or I could go to the speciaist and it would probably not be paid for because it is infertility.
exploratory surgery for abdominal pain not being covered is so stupid. i am in pain and you want to throw the infertility no insurance pay card!

I bled from June 2003 to February 2004. This was when I was on the depo provera shot (isn't it suppose to STOP bleeding?).
When I told my doctor he said he had never heard of that happening before but didn't seem too concerned. Should he have been? What could've possibly been going on in there?
It is a shame that some doctor's take it more seriously than others. I wish that all doctors had the same thoughts and procedures when it came to PCOS. The world would be a better and happier place.

PLEASE BY ALL MEANS PLEASE HAVE A TRANSVAGINAL ULTRASOUND AND UTERINE BIOSPY!!!!!!!!!!!
I agree that alot of the irregularities with your cycle are PCOS related.
I would skip my period for 4-6 months and then bleed for 4-6 weeks.
Then once I was on DEPO I never had a cycle.
I eventually came off Depo so I could TTC.
Still no cycles.
Then out of the blue I started bleeding heavily and passing large clots.
Doc did Transvaginal Ultrasound and saw that my lining was thick. He gave me shot of progestrone and that barely slowed the bleeding. Then I went back for a second shot. I stil was bleeding a week later and went to have Iron level checked it was really low so they did emergency DNC. It found that I had ENDOMETRIAL CANCER.
Do not let anyone minimize your situation.
PCOS is a serious condition.
My research shows that women with PCOS are at a high risk for Endometrial Cancer.
Today in fact on today show this massive study was released and it showed that obesity causes about 7 types of cancer
and yep Endometrial as well as breast cancer were included.
Especially for women who were apple shaped (weight around belly classic PCOS symptom)
I had to eventually have a hysterectomy November 10, 2007 will be a year. So far no more cancer.
May 14th of this year my best friend who is 28 years old and has PCOS (which her doc said was mild case, I always disagreed with her doc) was told she had Endometrial cancer. She was told by a specialist who she went to after her treating physician told her she had a STD and only gave her antibodies and wouldn't schedule an appointment to do a biopsy because she said she was overreacting because of my sitituation. She had been bleeding and passing clots for weeks and I was the one who insisted she go to the Doc. She had cancer and various polyps. She had a hysterectomy in June.
Please my cysters take it serious. It could just be something minor but you will not know for sure until you are tested.
BTW I decided to have the hysterectomy after 2 biopsies came back as hyperplasia (after I had taken meds and cancer had cleared). After my hysterectomy that despite the fact that my biospies only showed hyperplasia I in fact had stage 1a cancer.
Please free to PM me if you want further info.
It isn't a death sentence unless it goes untreated.
