Well, I am going in tomorrow. Have any of you noticed issues with your blood pressure . I usually run about 100/60. I don't want it to make it go lower. I also am not plucking for my appointment tomorrow. I am leaving the belly hair, the nipple hair and the never ending bush. I want her to see what I am dealing with. Hopefully she will have empathy and just give me the damn meds.

She does want me to have a pap though. I don't feel like it, but I know I need to . I just feel so fat, furry and vunerable! Wish me luck!

She gave me a script for 100mg of spiro. I am so excited. I am taking it first thing tomorrow. Wish me luck. I love this doctor! She listens and she actually cares about me and my issues

Good luck! It's nice to find a Dr who takes things seriously.

I was also prescribed 100mg but I've started on just 50mg so far, one morning, one evening. I started them 3 days ago. (I'm in the habit of halving prescriptions before taking them as I can be so sensitive to meds.)

About the blood pressure -mine tends to be on the low side too. I haven't taken it recently but we have a blood pressure monitor a home so I'll use that to keep an eye. It was only cheap from the chemist and very handy! (Last year some antidepressants caused my blood pressure to get really high and I'd never have known without the monitor as it was a rare and unexpected side effect.)

I take my spiro twice a day. It works best this way because it breaks down after a few hours then is gone from the body. Also it is absorbed much better if you take it with food, so I always take it with breakfast and then again at dinnertime.

Thanks for that. I wasn't aware it was better to take it with food

I followed your advise and I split my pill in half. I took 1/2 with dinner, so 50mg. I did notice that I was a little more thirsty. I don't know if its just in my head though.

I am going to go back and see the doctor in 3 months. I thought I would feel really self concious with her. She weighs about 100 lbs and it like 5 ft 6. I felt so comfortable with her. She was quick with my pap and encouraged me to call her if I ever have any questions.

I was thinking of starting laser surgery for my chin hair. She said the spiro would help stop new hairs from forming, but that it won't do anything for the hair that is already there. I am also starting back on the glucophage. I am going to try the XR version. When am I going to start to feel different??

FYI, when you go to the pharmacist you can ask for the prescription to be filled in 25mg tablets. That way you don't have to cut the 100mg pill in half, you just take two 25 mg tablets twice a day.

DON'T DO LASER!!! it's a total waste of money if you have PCOS! I had already undergone three sessions (with the laser at the highest possible voltage) with absolutely no results before my dermatologist suggested that i see an endocrinologist. My endo told me that laser is pointless and the best way to treat excess hair is to treat the underlying cause which is obviously the imbalance of hormones and an excess of androgens.

Jetslover, I am sooooo tired. It has been just short of a month and it is better but still tired. I just started a low dose of bystolic for BP so the tired could be that also. But yes the spiro made me so tired at first, my legs hurt and felt weak and the Dr said that this is just side effects, they will go away no big issue. So check with your Doc but if you can soldier through it it should resolve.
On the bright side my face hair is REALLY diminished!!! REALLY. in less than a month.Body hair is less but I too have the neverending bush So funny I thought that was just me!! I infrequently get waxed and the ladies always talk about how manly my hair is"hairy like a man in the privates" people are lovely lovely.Anyway good luck!!

I have been on metformin (500 mg 2x a day), aldactone (100 mg 2x a day) and birth control pills. Since November I have lost 70 pds. Most of my weight was around my middle and the problems I was having (missed periods, weird cycles, pain) my dr suggested trying a combination of meds to control PCOS. When he told me some people lose weight on the meds, I really did not believe him, but I did.

I did shift my eating habits, although I have not started exercising yet. I need to but have trouble motivating myself ! LOL !

Might not be a bad idea. Perhaps she could do the Ferriman Gallwey hirsutism scoring. My doc did. http://www.hirsutism.com/hirsutism-b...ey-score.shtml

The better she can see it in it's "natural" state, the better to score with and then you can do the scores every so often to see if meds/treatment are helping or not.

I too have been tired on this medication....but I don't want to sleep.....I have trouble getting to sleep....which could be causing the tiredness. I started taking a daily vitamin to see if this will help me have a little more energy...maybe my body is just lacking something.

I have another question...potassium issues. I LOVE bananas....I could go through 2 bunches in a week no problem and now I am scared to eat them because they say that too much potassium on Spiro is not good for you. So some input would be good on this issue.

I'm a banana eater too and knew about the potassium thing. I haven't had any problems so far. My Dr. has me do blood tests every few months to check potassium levels. So far, even with the bananas, no problems. But this is a pretty good read on hyperkalemia and it's symptoms to look for just in case. http://www.medicinenet.com/hyperkalemia/article.htm
