Post WHats wrong with me?!!

I'd like to ask some
opinions. Ok, let me first start by saying I'm 19, overweight, a
college student, and not sexually active. My story begins.. as..
well I've never really had regular periods, I'd have one and then go
like 3 months without having one. In my younger days I was pretty
regular, but I remember when I was about 15 ( I think i started my
period when I was 11?).. I started becoming irregular. I knew I was
pregnant, so I just payed no attention.. I'm the shy type.. lol. So
last october I had my period and it quit for 2 days.. and came back
again.. and lasted til november when I went to my family doc. and
she told me to take aleeve to make the bleeding stop, which I did,
but it wouldn't make it completely stop, so I finally quit taking
it. Then in Jan. I went to the doctor and she put me on Aleese to
regulate it. well while on my first 3 days my chest began hurting, I
had headaches, and was nervous, so I quit taking it, but in that 3
days time I had quit bleeding!! but then 2 days later I had began,
and it was the HEAVIEST period I had EVER had. 10 days later it
quit. I had another period in march i think...and it ended normal.
in the middle of june i started again and have been basically on it
since then. I will go a period of anywhere from 1 -2 days off.. to
even a whole week. But it that rarely happens.. and occasionally it
will be heavy, but for hte most part it's mild. I went to the doctor
today, because they have been checking my TSH levels, because it
runs in the family, they think it may have something to do w/ it.
well in Jan. it was slightly high. as in about 5.6.. in may when I
went it was about 5.3.. i think i remember the range being as high
as 5.5? so i was rechecked again today.. results pending, and told
my doctor I feel tired all the time, I don't have much energy. and
she checked my neck out. so we agreed when the test results came
back we'd check the TSH and the possibly send me to an obgyn for
testing for polycystic ovary syndrome disease? i'm kinda scared
about going to an obgyn, as i've never been before, as having a pap
as well. i'm scared about that. I'm a very private person, and I'm
cringing at the thought of having someone else looking at me down
there.. if anyone has any insight or anything they want to ask or
add, please feel free to!.. also, do you think it could be
Polycystic ovary syndrome?? thanks b

Welcome, and hope you find some answers.
First of all, the ob/gyn visit isn't all that bad. If you're a virgin, tell them that...they'll us the smallest scalpula they can. Second, some of your symptoms sound like PCOS, but you said they were testing your TSH...one of the symptoms of hypothyroidism is unusually long/heavy periods. So, I guess what I'm saying is definitely go see the ob/gyn...at least you'll know what the possiblities are then. If you need to talk, you can e-mail me: musicat@sbcgloballnet or yahoo message: musicat325.

Welcome!
Hope you can find all the answers you need to any questions you may have! feel free to talk to me at anytime! I've been in your shoes! It can be scary, but it will all work out!

OBs aren't as bad as people make them sound- remember these drs. have seen hundereds of women, and you aren't the first... so don't worry about that... Do tell them that you are a virgin, they will be extra gentle.

If you do have PCOS, its important to have any early dx, and start to take better care of yourself, as soon as ya can.

Take care!

Thanks guys for all your help.. I keep trying to talk myself out of being scared.. keep telling myself that they see tons of women in that area and mine probably won't phase them. But I'm scared of not being normal. .. lol. such a big baby.. lol and yes i know about the fiance.. thing.. the guy I was dating last october..(we're taking a break).. I had to tell him.. because I didn't want to go out that weekend and he said well soemthing is going on and if i find out you're cheating.. then we're over.. so I felt bad and had to tell him.. and he seemed terrified, but held me tight and told me everything would be ok. needless to say, his mom was having some similar problems as well. lol and he knew about'em!

could someone give me some more information on the low carb diet they've been using..
I tried it for a week a while back (me n the bf).. and i felt great, but working in a gas station wasnt to my advantage.. so I've tried to be better.. Today I only had.. 6 total carbs. but I've got a 1 gram candy bar to much on. Lol. I'm not sure about the whole carb thing, so help please????

I should have lab results back tomorrow.. possibly..
Is there anything in particular I should be looking for?

thanks everybody!

Default Blood results

Well, the tests came back normal.. My TSH was about 4.2. So It was normal..
Now I'm not sure what to do...
I guess it means I will have to go to the OB. I so don't want to go, i'm so scared that something else is going to be wrong.
But it's strange.. For the past week.. I've been going like kinda heavy.. as if I was truely and normally on my period.. but now I've started.. There's really only blood when I wipe, and most of the time it's not a whole lot, and then I just really only have to wear panty liners.. This is strange I reckon.
If anybody has any input, Please.. Lemme know!

hi a tsh of 4 is not normal according to new standards.... please go to www.thyroid.about.com nowadays anything much over a 2-3 is considered hypo and your tests indicate you are. alot of drs are sooo all about strict lab ranges...so its a bit of a time to find a good one who treats the person and not just labs...

i beleive in the thyroid section of this site..there is also an article about tsh according to the aace( endocrinology) that drs should be more aware of the new ranges.

with everything i read..not only could it be pcos but also most likely your thyroid.

ps... tsh is a good tests...but please get the free t3 and free t4 thyroid tests also... the www.thyroid.about.com site can explain all the best tests to you

good luck xoxxo jenn
