Hello fellow UK soulcysters.
Sorry to bother you all but i need some advice before my appointment at GP's tomorrow.
I have decided to make an appointment at GP's as the past couple of weeks i feel so tired and run down all the time.I could sleep all day and night and i simply have no energy whatsoever .(This is not like me usually)
I was wondering if maybe anyone else has the same probs with pcos? and if i need to ask my practice nurse if i need bloods taken to check for anything and if so what? Do any of you think it maybe thyroid as i have also put on some weight recently??
Please any help would be grateful from you as i am at my wits end

I'm kind of new at this, but having been diagnosed with PCOS I can say that fatigue is one of the symptoms. I have to say that I have been feeling particularly blue lately, and that really makes things worse.
If you haven't been checked before, you should definitely have your thyroid checked. Also, I don't know how long you've been on the metformin, but if nothing turns up from your thyroid and other basic investigations, it might be worth having your liver function checked, as met is metabolized there.
Sarah,
thanks for your reply to my question it's good to know i am not the only one with fatigue. I am newly diagnosed.....about 8 months ago.I have been on met for about 3 months. I will definatley get my thyroid and liver function tests performed.
Thanks again
Andrea
If you want any advice too as you are newly diagnosed please feel free to e mail me.....dexterdevil@aol.com
I was like this a few months back. My gp checked my thyroid and if I was anaemic. I wasn't.
These last few weeks, I have tried to avoid white bread , cake etc as much as possible, and haven't felt sooooo tired.
Hope this helps
Eva

I feel tired all the time, which isn't helpfull when trying to write my end of year essays!
I've been put on Metformin which is helping a little, but I have been forcing myself to do some light exercise like swimming and running. This helps me have better sleep and I have become a little less tired

Id just like to say, I have both problems, rather severe pcos and rather severe underactive throid...so Im not sure which makes me quite so tired....some days Im fine but mostly I could sleep all night, all day and wake up for a while and still need more sleep....it dire isnt it...its awful, I dont know what to suggest because I just live with it....but then again I am now a housewife...( no kids yet, just keep the home) so its not that affective on my lifestyle...Im just permanantely tired xx

I know just how you are feeling. About 5 years ago I went to my GP feeling very silly, and told him I felt tired all the time, it was all I could do to stay awake during the day. Luckily I know my GP well and he immediately did blood tests and referred me for an ultrasound after the bloods pointed to PCOS.
At the moment I am only taking Dianette. I still get very tired from time to time. and Im known for having to have a weekend siesta or two just to keep going! I think part of my problem at the moment is that Im suffering from unexplained very heavy bleeding so that Im anaemic as well!
I used to worry about having the odd nap, I worried about people thinking I was lazy, but now I just dont care! I find quick naps make me feel a whole lot better so its best just to give in to the urge to sleep for a short while. Overall I feel a lot better when I do that.
