Points: 1,580.92 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 1,580.92 | When can hypothyroidism develop? Hi all.
When I was younger (and large for my age), my mother took me to the gynecologist and there was lab work done for my thyroid. At the time, I was probably 13, my thyroid was fine.
Now, I'm 25, have been diagnosed with PCOS, just delivered a still born due to incompetent cervix, and I'm larger than ever. (5'2", 241-245 lbs, belly weight carrier)
Could hypothyroidism have developed or am I just suffering from all of the "lovely" symptoms of PCOS?
Thanks ahead of time!
Mel

I've read being pregnant can make you go from Hypo to Hyper, so I would imagine with the hormone changes you could also become Hypo/Hyper when you become pregnant.
I'd for sure check it out, since it shares a lot of the PCOS symptoms.

So yes yours could have just developed.

One thing I have read is that people with hypothroid are 4 times more likely to lose a 2nd trimester pregnancy. I've never been overweight, but had other symptoms like thinning hair. I got diagnosed at age 29.

There is a lot of confusion in the medical community as to what is considered 'out of range' for thyroid patients. A good place to start is http://thyroid.about.com
Something a Dr. recently pointed out is that your levels can be increasing while 'in range' for several years, and then they finally go slightly out of range, and your doctor suddenly says, "omg! you're hypothyroid... we have to treat you", even though you've been experiencing symptoms for years. Being 'in range' or 'normal' doesn't mean there's nothing wrong or that you're going to feel well. |
