Hi Everyone:
I was just wondering if/when you considered donor eggs, what your experience was, how long you had to wait to find a donor, etc...
I have had two IVF cycles. The first one failed. For the second, I am still waiting for the pregnancy tests, but the blasts were of pretty poor quality, so I am not holding my breath. I figured that we would probably try another fresh cycle or two, but after that, it might make sense to go for a donor. I don't know...I am so depressed over this. I never thought that it would be this hard. This is like my worst nightmare. It just seems like I have poor quality eggs and that there is not much that can be done. I am a very healthy BMI, in my mid-twenties.

Sorry no advice. I haven't even started clomid yet but have been thinking about how far down the treatment path Im/we're willing to go. I'm older than you and my husband is even older so there is a reasonable chance that we could require fairly drastic measures. But I don't think that I'm interested in even iui, possibly not even injectables. I think we'll try clomid for a while and if that doesn't work, move on to adoption. Not because I think there is something wrong with more invasive fertility treatments, Just for me the genetic link and being pregnant aren't essential.
I guess all I'm saying is it totally depends on you and your dh. Good luck

I've been wondering if that's an issue for me too, but I guess I am a little surprised that you moved to IVF so quickly after trying Clomid. When I raised this topic with my doctor in a check-in last week she indicated that she wanted me to try Clomid, then Femara, then injectibles for three-six cycles each before going on to IVF.
Did they do a day 3 blood test to check for egg quality?
You might want to consider some additional options if not before moving on. That said, if it seems right to you then go for it!

TTC #1 since January 2009 & diagnosed May 2009
------------------------------------------------
June - Clomid 50, 100, 150 - thinned lining & no follies
July - Off for vacation/build lining
August - Femara 2.5, trigger - bfn
September - Off for cysts
October - Femara 5, trigger, IUI - 2ww
I am facing IVF, we are looking to start a cycle in July. Here is my 2cents, and this is just from reading EVERYTHING on IVF and listening to Podcasts......have you had your DH's SA checked? If the morphology is off, or count is low, or antibodies are off....you can get poor quality embies. I would look into that too.
just a thought!

Also, depening on your RE......mine says that Clomid can screw with the testosterone in women with PCOS. So, he will NOT ever use it for PCO girls! I have never used it, and the doc says I dodged a bullet.

Thanks for the feedback! My husband's sperm was analyzed, and the doctor said that it was "perfect", so that is definitely not the problem.
I have never heard about Clomid messing with testosterone, but my blood levels have always been normal--no elevated testosterone or any other telltale PCOS blood test indicators. I was diagnosed based on an ultrasound.

sara-
then that's a good thing! I have high free testosterone, and doc said that clomid shuts testosterone off in the brain but not elsewhere. So women who already have high testosterone may not O, and it may hinder the process. The same with femera. He did name one drug that was great for PCOSers, tamoxifen. But, alas, IVF is the only way for us to go with BF's SA.
You may also find donor eggs with a shared cycle. We are looking into this as well. The donor shares eggs with you for a reduced cost. Yes, you would only get half of the eggs, but hopefully with quality. I did hear that women with PCOS do this cycle very well, since we tend to produce so many follies, as long as they mature (catch 22).
We are looking into a shared cycle in PA and NJ.
