Default When did you take progesterone?

I'm about to start my first cycle of injectables (follistim) and am confused about how hard I should push my RE to put me on progesterone. I see a lot of women on here being tested for and taking progesterone after the IUI. How has your RE decided if/when to have you take it?

My RE said that the only time women need progesterone is for IVF but he never uses it any other time. Have any of you used it any other time? What test does your RE do to know if you need it? What are the numbers I should be looking for to know if I need it?

What was your experience that led to you using progesterone?

Any advice/suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks!

I didn't do my injects/IUI yet - will next month - but my RE said when the time comes I will be on progesterone during my whole 2WW and if I'm PG thru the 1st Trimester. I think it's a just-in-case thing they do!

I got progesterone without even asking for it this cycle. It was also a follistim cycle.

Have you ever had a progesterone test after ovulating? Its a blood test done 7dpo. If you have, maybe its been ok and that is why he doesnt give it to you?

If you've never had one and he refuses to give it to him ask him for a p4 (7dpo progesterone test). here's some info on progesterone testing. Looks like normal levels are 20-150

I was in an injection class with 2 women doing iui's and the dr/rn told them to start the progesterone 3 days post iui to help implantation and help maintain until they are 12 wks ago. Guess dr's have their own plans...I would request it....i have heard of a natural progesterone cream over-the-counter...but not sure on when/how much to put on.

I take Prometrium 200mg vaginal suppositories starting 2 days after IUI. It is supposed to help decrease chances of a m/c and help to support a healthy embryo. If I get a BFP I have to continue taking it through the first trimester. It is not as cheap as most drugs. I have a friend who is a nurse that says that is because only one company makes it. I think mine was around $60 for a 30 day supply and that was with some insurance coverage.

I have to pay $84 for 28 suppositories. :-( But I think this might be the only way for me to get pregnant. I wonder if there is a cheaper way to get them.

My doctors have me come in between 4 and 6 days after ovulation to test my levels. The first time they found it was low so they started me on it ASAP and until I got my period. This time they had me start it two days after the IUI knowing that I was prone to low levels.

Does progesterone keep AF away? I'm using the suppositories for the first time. If I am not pregnant, will I only get AF after I stop using them?
