i had 2 when i was 5w4d and 6w4d, due to bleeding....but other than that i had the usual 12 weeks ulstrasound(nuchal fold)..and i have my 20 week scan on the 18/11/2002, but ill be 21 weeks at that time!

i booked in with my midwife very near straight away, and it was her that sent my to the early pregnancy unit when i was bleeding!

maybe different counties, do things different!!

good luck

gina

I think all health authorities do an "anomaly" scan (where they look for physical defects) at around 20 weeks. Some also do a scan around 12 weeks, for checking the dates of the pregnancy, and also sometimes a nuchal scan at the same time (although this may only be offered to "older" mums).

I also had scans for each of my pregnancies at around 6/7 weeks, the first time because I was seeing my Ob privately following ovarian drilling, and was amazed that I had got a really faint + on HPT...he sent me for scan to confirm pregnancy. The second time was a surprise pregnancy, I had no idea how far gone I was, GP sent my to the early pregnancy unit and told me to LIE that I was getting cramps, as a sneaky way of getting a due date.

First pregnancy I also had a scan at 17 weeks cos I was admitted to the hospital due to severe MS...turned out I was only 14 weeks!!! (Thanks to PCOS and ridiculously late O).

Second pregnancy I had a nuchal scan at 12 weeks, I paid for this privately as at that time my local hospital didn't offer nuchal scan.

so, I 've rabbitted on a bit, but it's perfectly normal in UK to only get one scan at 20 weeks.

Lis

ps also perfectly normal not to see midwife until 10-12 weeks!

I my area normal is around 12 weeks, we don't get the anomaly scan at 20 weeks at all.
I had one at 8 weeks due to my previous miscarriage, more for reassurance than anything. This first scan will date your pregnancy and get you into the system.
Let us know how you get on.

Hi,

I've just had U/S (today) at an Early Preg Unit at 6w2D (although me & Dr. thought I was 9w4d!!). I only got it 'cos I hastled my Dr. who is not a PCOS expert but very understanding and understands that it's a high risk preg. He's also referring me to antenatel early for same reasons.

I guess that the women on the Pregcysters board are mostly in US & Canada so they are all on a kind of private heath scheme. I find it really useful to share info with others going through the NHS system so look forward to reading your posts on this board or Pg board.

Here's to more UK babies.
