OK so I'm still new to PCOS and trying very hard to avoid any medication other than birth control pills.
I've only found out just a year ago that I had this interesting syndrome.
So here's my question. I don't want to sound like a whinny patient to my doc; but when do you call him? My current dilemma is abdominal cramps (no where close to time for a probable period)... I'm sure it's more cysts as it always has been in the past... but when do you go? When the pain is unbearable? When you are leaking weird colors of pasty fluid? Please provide some advice.
A little background on me. 34 married working mother of 3; dx w/ pcos feb 08 after finishing breast feeding my last child. Periods never returned. Recently told found a mass on my brain by my pituitary gland and being checked for every type of cancer due to my family history. Latest blood work showed FSH/LH levels at below 0.3; Testosterone high; glucose normal. Most cysts found at one time were 16; 3 of them size of grapefruit. Began weight loss 12/16/08; as of this week dropped 47lbs have 60 to go. Trying to reduce the effects of PCOS through diet/exercise and stress reduction.
Please provide any advice on when to call the doc; with all the appointments I have with tests for this and that; I really am tired of going and calling; however I do not want to jepordize my health.
With a history like that, I would go. Cysts the size of grapefruits? I think you should get checked. I'm sorry you're in such pain, though. I have standard PCOS cysts and have not ever experienced unbearable abdominal pain.
I would not even hesitate to go. Is your doctor making you feel this way, or are they your own reservations about feeling whinny? Because it's not a matter of being whinny, you are in pain. If it's the doctor making you feel even a little bit that way, get a new doctor that meets your needs and has better bed-side manners. If they are your own reservations... try to let it go, and set an appointment.
Good luck and hope your having a great day!

Doing Low GI diet as of Sept. 07. DX with PCOS in Sept 07' as well.
Started at a size 24, now a size 14. My waist was 44", now it's 32".
I am on no medication, just diet and exercise.
Thank you all for your support and information! I encourage all of you to do a Low Glycemic diet!
Id go immediately. Never be afraid of sounding whiney, you know your body, and if it doesnt feel right, you need to think of yourself, and only yourself, not what the dr thinks is whiney. hope everything turns out ok.

I am NOT a doctor.
but your pituitary gland functions in hormone regulation, so having mass on your or near your gland and having pcos....I can't say i'm really shocked you're having hormone problems.
I sometimes have abdominal pains that i attribute to my pcos, my doctor agreed that it might be related...but if you are having sharp or sever abdominal pain and have not previously had it inspected, you want to go to a doctor to make sure you aren't haveing something happen like your apendix ruptureing. NOw don't panic, just calmly go and get it looked at, stress won't help you here.
This sounds trite, but I want to assure you, It's going to be okay, you just need to take the steps to take care of yourself.
