Default When do you know you need Spiro?

When do you know to ask your doctor for Spiro? I am concerning with health, first and foremost.....but TTC is HUGE for me. Will this help with TTC? Thanks....Misty

As far as I know, Spiro does not help with TTC. Maybe someone else can tell you more.

You cannot take spiro while ttc. It causes birth defects, especially in boy babies.

Thumbs down

I have to echo Josie's warning. You cannot take spiro while TTC. I take Spiro to help with unwanted hair growth. A lot of times it is prescribed in addition to BCP.

You use spiro to help with high blood pressure, cholesterol, and to get rid of hair in the wrong places and keep it in the right places. It's a diuretic medicine that is also an anti-androgen (anti-testosterone). New Research suggests that keeping your levels of testosterone in the normal range (lower than most pcos ladies) helps preserve fertility, as they are finding that too much testosterone damages eggs. However, you CANNOT take it while TTC, because it can cause severe defects in babies, especially male babies. (male babies will be born with heart problems and female genitalia) However, you could take it in the form of Yaz or Yasmin birth control (each contain 100mg spiro) for 6 months to a year while preparing your body and finances for a baby, or take it solo in addition to another method of contraception while doing the same.

Yaz and Yasmin only contain equivalent to 25 mg Spiro, but lots of people see good results with lowering their testosterone on one of these BCPs alone. I've been really amazed how much Spiro and Yaz have helped my excess hair in just 5 months. The hair on my arms is much thinner and lighter and so is the hair on my belly (although it's been there since age 12 and seems to be the slowest to go away). I had laser hair removal on my face before taking Spiro and Yaz, but I'm sure they are helping prevent regrowth.

Here are two links that confirm that Yaz has equiv. 25 mg Spiro. I'm sure Yasmin is the same.
