I know this may be a dumb question, but bear with me here...lol. I was just diagnosed with PCOS and my doctor is starting me on Yasmin. But I'm a little confused. She told me to start taking the pill next Sunday (the 8th), even if I hadn't started my period yet (it should come the first week in Jul). And she told me if I did start my period on time, then to start taking it when my period is over. But I was reading the leaflet and it says to start the pill on the first day of your period. So when am I supposed to start taking it? I'm so confused!
Also, this is probably another dumb question, but you take the pill everyday, including when you're on your period right? Thanks.
...i just went through this issue with starting BCPs. I’m no doctor so what i say is just IMO (in my opinion...look at newbie board for list of abbreviations) I don’t have periods at all so i didnt know when to start either. I was on BCPs before but stopped and then I was put back on because I don’t have periods…STILL
....with yasmin there are 3 weeks of yellow 'active' pills and a row of white pills ‘sugar' pills. Take a pill every night....even during your period (aka AF) Many women find that once they get to the white pill they don’t start AF until a couple days. So you would use all 3 rows of yellow and at least 2 or 3 white, then see AF. The packet that comes with yasmin describes two ways to start. Either: first day of period/red blood OR first Sunday after seeing AF...or red blood. My doc said start on sunday...so you wont have periods on weekends ....but for me because it took a couple of white pills before i saw AF, I still had my period on the weekends! Now that I’m restarting i decided to start this pack on wed night so that by the time i get AF it will be on the week days. Anyways.....the easiest way to remember i think is to start the first Sunday after you have AF. Its a good day to remember to start a new pack or to calculate when AF will be in town....but it just didnt work out well for me. If your period IS coming the 1st week in July taking it the Sunday the 8th wont be bad....that sounds about right to me (first Sunday after seeing red blood)....but even if you dont start AF next week i would start taking the pills it anyways.
Oh and in case it didn’t come across clear before….while on yellow pill there is no AF…your period will come after starting the white pills…which are just sugar pills. Some women don’t actually take the white pills, because they are more of a reminder pill to keep you in the habit of taking it nightly at the same time. I do take the white pills. The white pills have no hormones or medicine in them of any type so it is not completely necessary to take them but I would recommend taking them at least for your first few cycles.
Best of luck!…and sorry that got so long!
Oh one more thing…on the back of the instructions booklet thing there are little ‘days of the week’ stickers…USE THEM….if you start on a Sunday get the sticker that starts with Sunday, (sun, mon, tue, wed….etc) Stick it at the top of the yasmin bill case popper thing…that always helps keep me straight!

Thanks for the reply! One more quick question though... I doubt I will start my period on time since it's always irregular...so do you think there's any harm in starting it THIS Sunday even though I won't be on my period and probably won't start it till at least a week or two later. ???
well like i said before...im not a doctor so i dont REALLY know what im talking about...but i have been through it. My doc said wait a few weeks to see if i got AF...i waited, knowing it woulnt come...so i just wasted those two weeks..I think it would be okay to start sunda, i dont see any harm in it. Just make sure that if you are sexually active you use a 'back up method' dring that first pack of pills....becaue our periods are weird the frist pack wont really prevent babies all it will do is regulate us. So i would say start it if you want to. I know once i started BCPs (i took yasmin too) i started feeling a lot better, not 100% better but a lot less crapy feeling. If you have any other questions let me know...good luck!
