I have the hardest time remembering to take my Levo in the mornings sometimes! I was wondering if there is anyone who takes it at night? I take my bc's and my Prometrium at night without fail, so I figured if I added the Levo at night, I wouldn't forget.
Seems like I remember hearing/reading somewhere that you should take it in the morning, but I can't find where I read/heard it...
Any thoughts?

For me I take both of my thyroid meds in the morning. The doc.said that is when you are suppose to take them b/c your body needs that for the whole day. When I first started taking them I set both bottles out on the counter so I would see them first thing in the morning, especially since you are suppose to take them an hour before you eat breakfast. That way as soon as I walked into the kitchen I would take them then get ready then eat. Or you could put them wherever you first go once you get up,bathroom, kitchen, dresser, see if that helps!!!!
I take Synthroid at 6am. Remember not to take your levo within a couple of hours of any other meds. Srsly, it doesn't matter *when* you take it during the day, just so long as you do take it. It has a half life of around 6 days...I've read from different people who take it before bed and had greater weightloss and they felt there was a connection taking it before bed. I don't know, tho.
I keep my Synthroid on my nightstand. Since the pill is sweet like a little piece of candy, I usually just chew it up right then and chase it with water a little later when I get out of bed.

I can never remember to take it either!! It's because I can't take it with my other meds and you're supposed to take it 1 hour before or 2-3 hours after you eat. It's a pain to work it into your day! I'm supposed to take mine in the morning too. I think I'll try setting the bottles out in plain sight as Ella suggested above.
Wow, my dr. never said to takes them at any special time. I have always taken mine at night with my multi vit. The only warning on my bottle says to take on empty stomache so it can obsorbe properly. Hummm wonder if I should change and take in the am?????????

I take mine at bed time which is usually around 10 p.m. My doc suggested taking it in the a.m. an hour before eating but I'm one of those people who has to eat breakfast ASAP. I wake at 5 a.m. and usually have breakfast by 5:30 a.m.

I take them at night too. My TSH level dropped from 4.9 to 3.5 by taking it in the morning and dropped down to 2.0 by taking it at night.

Heather...yes, change the time you take your meds because you shouldn't take thyroid meds with anything other than water. The iron in the multi-vitamin was keeping the levo from being absorbed properly. Change to the AM and if you've been taking your levo with the vitamins for a long time (between TSH checks), you may find yourself having to take a lower dose of levo because it's working like it should now.

I take my synthroid in the morning a half hour to an hour before breakfast. I leave a full glass of water on the table next to my bed with my prescription sitting there so when my alarm goes off, I hit snooze, pop the pill, drink the water, roll over and go back to sleep. By the time I shower and get down to eating(usually at work) it has been about an hour if not a little more. My pill bottle said to take it at that time with that much water. My doctor failed to mention it though.
Absorption is increased by fasting, hence the empty stomach in the morning. Here's some other information that I found:
"Consumption of certain foods may affect levothyroxine absorption thereby necessitating adjustments in dosing. Soybean flour (infant formula), cotton seed meal, walnuts, and dietary fiber may bind and decrease the absorption of levothyroxine sodium from the GI tract."
On that same page it also has interactions for the drugs. I know on another section, it said that you shouldn't take it within 4 hours of any drugs it has interactions with.
Once you get through all the technical stuff, it really has a lot of useful information. This is actually the 4th page of the information, so you could go back and start from the beginning.
I also take it first thing in the morning before I even go to the bathroom. I only have a couple sips of water with it because it's such a small pill. But I've noticed it does say to have it with a full glass of water, I wonder if that makes any difference.

This will probably sound weird, but I take mine in the middle of the night. I have always gotten up at least once to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night so take it then. It's usually around 2am. I like to take my first multivitamin with breakfast at about 6 or 7am this way I can continue to do that.
Rebecca - I think the water is just to help the pill get to the small intestines where it is obsorbed. I don't drink a full 8 oz of water with it either, but it appears to be working. My last TSH was 1.1

I have wondered about this too. All the stuff I see says to take it in the morning, but doesn't really tell you why. I know there are lots of meds you shouldn't take it with, and it is supposed to be on an empty stomach.
I take mine in the morning, but what is hard for me is that I work night shift 3 days a week, so even if I am taking it in the morning, I have actually been up all night and am about to go to bed. Anyone know if this makes a difference? I wouldn't think so as long as I take it on an empty stomach, right?
Synthroid should be taken on an empty stomach, BUT really, as long as you take it the same way every day, then you will be getting the dose you need. Your dose will be adjusted assuming that you are taking it the same way every day.
