Default When do you take yours?

My doctor in the States put me on 1000mg of Metformin starting last January, one 500mg in the morning, one at night. It didn't do anything for me. Then I switched docs when I moved to Japan and he kept me on the same dosage in spite of my inquiries about the therapuetic level. I finally got in to the OB/GYN clinic and the nurse practioner said that she wanted me to try 1500mg. She said it was ok to take all three pills at night. Does this sound right to you guys?

Is it regular or ER/XR?

In my humble opinion (haha) I woudl say if its regular, space them out, if its ER/XR take them all at once.

I agree with the PP, on reg Met you should space them out over the day. On the XR version you can take all at once. I am on the XR version 2000mg, and I take all at once in the evening.

I'm on 1000 mg and I take it all a night. My mom is on 2000 mg and her doc prescribed it to her as taking it all before bed as well. My old endo had me do 500 morning and 500 night. So I guess it really doesn't matter, but I will say that when I started taking them all at once right before bed, it DRAMATICALLY reduced the nasty side effects.

I take 1000mg in the morning when I wake up and 1000mg before bed. I haven't had any problems with not taking it with food.

I'm on 2,000mg. I take half at night and half in the morning. I'm on the extended release, but that's the schedule my doctor recommended, so I'm going to stick with that until I can ask him about it later.

OMG, YES! So much so that I refuse to this day to take 2000 ever again. When I first started Met I started out at 500 a day. It did nothing. Then I went to 1000, it started to help but then it pretty much quite working after a few months and my t levels started rising. So I went to 2000 and I hated it! The poopin' never stopped. DH and I went wine tasting and I got the juicy poos. I ate ice cream and got them, I had salad made with iceburg lettuce and got them, I had Splenda and got them. I ate nothing and got them. I was so sick of trying to go to work or just out and about and have to revolve my activities around a toilet. My doc still is trying to encourage me to take 2000 but I just can't...I won't. I've been doing a low carb diet with the 1000 and that's helped far more and been way more convenient than taking 2000. Even with low carb diet on 2000 everything causes the bubble guts, lol. I started Flutamide about 2 months ago and go in for my next visit next month and will have another full work up and see how it goes. If the diet and 1000 are working ok, we'll stick with that, if not she said we'd discuss actos or avandia instead of 2000 of met....which is fine by me!

I take 1500 mg of metformin ER all before bed and at least 2 hours after eating. My RE initially told me to take it with food but I was quickly becoming BFF's with my toilet. I then switched to the ER and taking it before bed has taken care of 99% of the side effects.

That sucks! I just threw my Met away.. I'm not into it. Didn't change a thing for me. I workout like a maniac and eat rabbit food now, seems to be getting rid of the acne.. didn't need the Met for weight probs. I think I'll die with laser hair removal treatments prescheduled though, I doubt I'll ever escape it. Oh well, easily masked. I'll be a tweezer razor purse packer forever

I take all 1500mg in the morning and it's not XR. If I don't take them all in the morning I will forget to take them later in the day, I was sick for the first few days that I started doing this but now it does not effect me at all.

I take 2000mg per day...1000 in the am after breakfast and 1000 in the pm after dinner. When I made the switch from Met XR 500mgs per day to this...OMG I ran to the bathroom every hour, it seemed like. Now that I have toughed out the poo-poo part all is well. I haven't noticed any weight loss unfortunately.
