Default When Does The 2nd Trimester Begin?

Ok so I'm finding conflicting information... On several websites like webmd, pregnology, etc it says 2nd trimester starts at week 13, but in What to Expect When you're Expecting says 14... So any ideas when the it starts? [personally I would like to claim the earlier week-of course! I would only have 3 weeks until I can take a breath]

From what I've heard/read the end of the 13th week is the end of the first trimester.
Weeks 14-26 is the second trimester.
Weeks 27-40 is the third trimester.

i always went by 4 1/2 weeks is 1 month (4 weeks is only 28 days, not the typical 30-31 days that are in a month). so every 9 weeks is about 2 months.

so i'd say
9 weeks = 2 months

13.5 weeks is the end of the 1st tri

27 weeks = 6 months completed ( 9 weeks x 3) end of 2nd tri

36 weeks = 8 months

40 weeks = yippee!!! hopefully you're done.

i'm a math teacher and a little anal about the actual months and i do know how precious every week is. though people tend to go by 4 weeks = 1 month b/c it's easier to calculate.

try not to stress (i know that's easier said than done)

According to my iPregnancy app, my second trimester begins on August 15 (which is only 18 days away!). Right now, I'm 9w3d. So my second trimester does start at week 13. Perhaps some websites go by the end of week 13.

It looks like you're a week ahead of me so 3 weeks until your second trimester seems right. HTH.

I'm thinking the best bet is to ask your OB. Then go by what they say. Mine told me the end of the 13th week is the end of the first trimester. So that's what I'm going by.

Opinions differ, but medically speaking the 2nd trimester starts around 13 weeks (give or take). My pregnancy book says that 13 weeks is the dividing line marking the end of the 1st and the beginning of the 2nd.

Keep in mind that it isn't calculated by dividing the total amount of pregnancy weeks by 3, it has more to do with how they define the growth stages of the baby

Oh... Congrats on hearing the heartbeat. I rented a doppler online, but I think I hear the heartbeat but I'm not sure. It's faint and definetly doesn't sound like a galloping horse. I was wondering if I was hearing the sound of my blood pumping through my veins or if is indeed the baby. I figure if it's the baby it will get stronger. What did yours sound like at the doctor... galloping horse yet?

Oh well I'm definetly chubby too. The doppler I rented is 3MHZ so hopefully will get stronger soon. Going try today again, didn't try yesterday so maybe there's a difference from Monday to Today.
