Default When does bleeding start with an ectopic?

I've been searching for info on ectopic pregnancies and find that it's really vague - abdominal pain (how painful?) and bleeding - couldn't find when.... The reason I ask is I've been having bright red spotting, with some dull to sharpish pains on my left side. The spotting has only been in little spurts, and often after I go to the toilet (so I am hoping that it's just my cervix...) but I don't have an obe appt until I'm 9 weeks pregnant, so I'm freaking out a little, but trying not to...

I'm told that the pain starts at 6-8 weeks. Are you having pains in one of your shoulders by chance?

I'd go see the OB sooner. Sorry you're having to deal with this!

I'm sorry you're going through this. I recently miscarried and since there was nothing detected in my womb with an u/s and I was having one sided pains, I was very very worried about an ectopic myself. I found this great message board at www.ectopic.org .

Since you're bleeding and having sharp pains on one side, I would recommend calling your clinic and letting them know what's going on ASAP. They will want to see you sooner, because with an ectopic, the sooner you detect it and take care of it, the better. Hopefully it will be nothing and they can rule out the ectopic by testing your HCG levels and finding a healthy pregnancy in your uterus.

I know how worried you are. I kept reminding myself how very very rare an ectopic pregnancy is and that helped me a lot. But also talking to my NP about my fears and having her monitor me made all the difference.

Wishing for the best,

-Nani

Thank you all for your support. I guess I'll ring my clinic today. I hate feeling like I'm being a pain. I've had dramas with all of my pregnancies and I just wanted this one to be like in the books... At this point I'm consoling myself with not having typical ectopic symptoms (no, no pain in the shoulders and the 'pain' I'm feeling on the left side is only really a discomfort, rather than a pain as such - I think I ovulated on that side, so it could just be a CL cyst I'm feeling), just the bright red spotting on and off (twice yesterday). I did get awfully upset last night when I had another bleed. I just hate all of this stress - I cried myself to sleep last night, it was just awful.

With any bleeding while pg you should be seen right away and not wait until 9 weeks. I had an ectopic but it wasn't detected until 8-9 weeks. I didn't have any pain but I had spotting. The only reason it was even detected was from beta levels.

Good Luck!
