I searched a bit and couldn't find a straight answer (and maybe there isn't one).

My hubby and I are planning on TTC in about 6 months.

I was diagnosed with PCOS 11 years ago and have been on metformin and BCP (most of the time a generic form of Ortho-tricyclen).

I have been reading horror stories of large cysts forming, long withdrawl periods, etc.

If I am TTC soon when should I take myself off of my BCP?

The only time I personally ever ovulated was the first few months that I went off BC... I'd say I'd go off in about three months and see how it goes.

I got a cycle regularly for about nine months after going off BC.

At my last gyno appt. I asked him when I should go off the BC to TTC #1, he said to go off the BC three months before I tried to TTC. He said that as a woman with PCOS I should not wait too long after going off BC or my cycles may go haywire like they were before going on BC.

I went off BCP in February of 07 and got normal AF until September - but was unable to get pregnant in that time. So, I'd suggest going off under a doctor's care - with a backup plan (Metformin, Clomid) in the event that your body goes haywire (mine did - I gained 30 pounds, vision deteriorated, etc).
