I've been on metformin for 2 years. For 10 months I've had a period every month, not like clockwork, but she comes and she goes fairly regularly. Then for the last 3 months, she's been on vacation. What's the deal? Has anyone else had metformin just stop working for them? I know it could be something else, health related or otherwise, but it just seems to me like Aunt Flow has taken an unauthorized leave of absence and I'm thinking it's the metformins fault.

Could it be diet-related? If you increase your carbs or don't eat enough protien, you can actually counter-act the drug. My periods weren't remotely close to normal until I got that part straightened out.
Do you exercise also? I found that if I did a minimum of 3-4 exercise sessions a week it really helped my insulin becomome more effective.
Sleep is also an issue that can affect insulin.
Hope it can help you..good luck!

Thank you for the thoughts. I haven't been eating as well or exercising as much (or sleeping as much for that matter), but I didn't think that any of it was the drastic of a change to experience what I'm experiencing now. I do have an ovary that is acting up, so that may be it too. I see that you've lost 60 lbs. That's incredible!!! I've lost close to 40 since being diagnosed with PCOS.

Ovary trouble could definetly be a factor..hormones can really swing when that happens. Our ovaries secrete estrogen and progesterone and the balance of those hormones can be affected. I'd try to control the factors you can and hopefully it will resolve. What does your Doc say?
