This my first ever post on a web site ever! I found you by desperately trying to link my weight gain with my recently diagnosed PCOS. I have had friends in the medical field tell me I need to be on Met as does my Doctor, but so far my Gynae consultant is not going down that route.
I'm at the end of my teather as I eat very healthily although I've always been overweight but i've put on 36lbs in the last 15 months without changing my eating habits at all!!
thanks for that, I think I need to educate myself on this so that the consultant is aware that I know my stuff and I'm not just looking for something to blame the weight on.
I just feel that if I were slim and I put all this weight on, they would investigate immediately, but as I am of larger build anyway, it doesn't feel like the urgency is there
Welcome to SC! I'm on Met for my mild insulin resistance. I tried dieting for years, and did loose weight, but my IR wouldn't go away. I started Metformin and started loosing again, then started gaining again. My doctor has switched me over to the extended release (Met. XR) which is much easier on my stomach. I had food aversion for a while, but was still gaining weight. I have started taking cinnamon pills daily and my weight gain seems to have stopped and I've lost about 2 pounds. I'm still on a modified lower carb diet.
first of all, welcome to soul cycsters. I am also on metformin 1500mg a day for insulin resistance. Im taking it with Clomid. I'm really seeing a difference.
Maybe take a multivitamin too? I am.
, ashley.

the best thing you can do is educate yourself. And if your GYN is blowing you off, get a new one. I know many Cysters have gone through several before they found one that actually helped them!

went to gynae yesterday and they told me that i can only be prescribed met if i am not ovulating at all and i ovulated 2 out of 3 on tests. when i asked about the weight, i was told EAT LESS.
if i eat much less i am gonna have far more issues than i have now
Eating less for me can mean weight gain because of insulin resistance. I hope you find a doctor who can help. Cinnamon has worked for some women. I'm on both Met. and cinnamon.

Amen to that!! I have been w/ a Dr that hasnt done anything to help me until now...I moved outta state and gotten a new dr, and I couldnt be happier. And he really knows his stuff! Keep looking for a better DR!
you definitely need a new doc. if she's telling you to eat less she's doesn't know her job very well. if you eat less than 1200 calories a day, your body goes into starvation mode. even if say, you eat 2 salads a day, and meat, fruit, and vegetables and drink water, and ice tea. even though you're eating healthy, you're not getting the calories you need to keep yourself fueled up. your body was designed to keep itself from starving so if you dont eat enough, even if you eat healthy foods, your body is just going to store it as fat, because it doesn't know when you're going to feed it again. what i would suggest is seeing if your doc will give you a referral for a nutritionalist. they'll have you do a food diary, bring it in, you'll go over it together, and they'll tell you "okay, eat more of this, less of this, this here is good....etc" and they dont just generalize. they do it based on your body type (not your weight) and how active you are, and due to the pcos and insulin resistance, they'll factor that in as well. Hope this helps. sorry, if its a little hard to follow, i'm kinda scattered.
