Default I say

that PCOS is an endocrine problem that is caused by my body's resistance to insulin, which in turn causes all the other hormones in my body to be out of balance as well, and it results in many symptoms.

Then if they're interested, I get into what those symptoms are if I am inclined to share any more.

I just say it's a hormone imbalance that keeps me from ovulating. This is because the only people who ask are doing so in the context of my infertility. I also have to explain why I'm taking Metfomin to any new GP or others who take it for Diabetes. That's when I use go with the IR/PCOS connection.

I say it and metabolic/endocrine disorder thats cause hormonal imbalances. I try not to link it to just my problems such as cysts or inferlity because there are many who suffer with PCOS who do not have those issues and do not want someone to miss a proper diagnosis or treatment because they are not manisfesting the same symptoms as I am.

I tell people it's an endocrine disorder kind of in the same family as diabetes.

If they ask about whay symptoms it causes, I'll say, "It varies from woman to woman. In me, it caused XYZ symptoms, but in another woman it causes ABC symptoms."

I'll stress that it's hard to diagnose, but women experiencing any ONE of the following symptoms should talk to her doctor about the posibility of PCOS:
Difficulty losing weight, irregular cycles, acne, hair loss, excess hair, etc.

my advice is just to describe it however you feel comfortable explaining it! its your body so if you want to say its and endocrine disorder than go right ahead i normally say that i have cysts on my ovaries and that it throws my hormones out of wack

I think that's as far as I ever get to explaining it.

That's almost exactly what I tell people too. I'm very vocal about it, simply because if I can prevent anyone else from going through what I've gone through, especially with the infertility aspect of it, I will.
