Exclamation When TTC -Synthroid OR Armour, what's best???

Hi everyone, I have Hashimoto's, my levels have been 2.79-2.73 since Nov. '06 on Synthroid 150mcg. Just wondering if any of you ladies ever got pregnant by using Synthroid or did you have to switch to Armour???? I have heard some women say they could not get preg on Synthroid, so I am curious as to what some of my Cysters have experienced - since we have infertility coming at us double whammy style?? Any success stories on Synthroid would be much appreciated - or on Armour!!!??!??!?? My CBEFMonitor did say that I finally O'd this past cycle, but BFN of course. Any info/advice would be helpful to me & THANKS!!

Default When TTC - Synthroid OR Armour, what's best???

Well i can tell you that i used to be on Synthroid but never got better, only worse (I have Hashimoto's). I'm definitely MUCH better since being on Armour. Synthroid is only T4, Armour has T1, T2, T3 as well as T4.

THANKS for the reply!! Did you conceive on Armour or Synthroid? Did your thyroid problems not come up until after baby or were they they before baby? That is what I am most wondering since I am trying. I do take Synthroid & it did work to get my TSH down to a safe range of 2.79-2.73 & has been within that range since NOV '06. I know that Synthroid is only T4 and relies on your body to convert T4 to T3(T4 to T3 conversion), but it has worked for me so far, I am just wondering what worked best for those that were in the process of conceiving a child - Armour or Synthroid? Because some have said that it is just impossible to conceive using Synthroid, yet my RE has mentioned nothing about any problems with it??? (Of course we all know that DRs won't tell you everyhting you need to know!!!) My MIL takes Armour and went from being HYPO to HYPER, but she also has another Autoimmune disorder, Fibromyalgia and tons of other medical probs. I know tht everyone responds differently to different meds, but I am just curious as to what other HYPO ladies experienced when TTC???? THANKS again for the info!! Take care!!

Hey SouthernGal . Looks like we're in the same boat again, I am also curious to know the answer to your question. I got my first peak my second month (this cycle) using the CBEFM and I also take Synthroid 50mcg. You said it best...double whammy! That's all we need huh?! *SIGH* This journey just gets better and better! Let me know what and if you find out, i'd really love to know also! Thanks

Default Synthroid worked for me

now I just have plain hypothyroidism, and Synthroid has never been a problem for me.

Hashi's can sometimes be tricky. And for the Synthroid vs Armour, it is a personal preference. Armour will work better for some people and Synthroid will work better for others. Neither of them will cure your infertility if you have other factors as well. I recommend finding an endocrinologist who is well versed in thyroid dysfunction, just becaue s/he is an endo doesn't mean they know how to treat every aspect of the endocrine system...just like there are some ob/gyns who specialize in high risk pregnancies.

Good luck TTC!
