Question When to up my dosage?

How did you ladies know when to ask your doc to up your dosage? I'm currently taking 1000mg/day of met and I try moving up to 1500mg on my own but i didn't see any difference. I felt a little sick though. So i went back to 1000mg. Next week I'm going back up to 1500mg(that's where my doc told me to be).
What feelings or symptoms am I supposed to look for to know it is working?. How should i know if I want to move up to 2000mg? Any help would be great. Thanks!

SLOWY SLOWY!!!! I went up 500 mg a week till at 2000mg and was crippled for 2 months back down to 1500 mg a day and every couple of days I take 2000mg. It is harsh on my belly, My GP says I may never beable to cope with 2000mg but I am still seeing benefits on 1500mg, Had 2 periods one at 32 days the other t 39 days,(started met in Oct) Hace lost a stone in weight. Listen to your body it will let you know, Your Dr can only advise

My doc told me the best dosage is the one that regulates my period. I'm at 1500 mg now and period is every 28 days (AMEN). I do agree with the above poster to go slow though...that stuff can wreck severe havoc on your digestive system! You'll be in the bathroom all the time if you don't watch out.

I always like to take as little as possible of something with the thought that if it doesn't work, I can always go up more. Sometimes if you take too much of something, the side effects and changes are hard to deal with, or you get too frustrated to really give it time to kick in.

Best of luck to you!

Thankful to finally have a diagnosis to my weird problems!
Symptoms since a teen.
Only odd thing about me--popped out two little kiddos with no problem (almost too easy). Go figure.

I knew it was time to up my dose when:

Wait until the side effects are down to a minimal or gone, and wait a week or two after that to see how you feel!

I started getting bad headaches and was sleeply all over again so my doc upped my dosage... because I asked him to (my pharmacy is really picky on how often they fill a prescription)

I feel my doc wanted me to go up to fast... so I did it at my own pace... since I only see him every three months... I dont have to worry about checking in... as long as I am at the point he wants me to be when I go in to see him he is okay with it!
