Same here. Gained a little weight, no AF in sight. I'm up to 1000 mgs a day now. I've been taking 1000 for 5 days now and my urge to constantly snack has subsided. Maybe your dr. should up your dose. Does waiting for AF suck or what????

Here's my experience. I believe it may take up to two to three months for the medicine to build up in your system enough to have an actual effect.
When I started (it was actually avandamet, a combo pill of avandia and metformin) taking the pill I was on 1000mg a day. It was November, by January my doctor bumped me to 2000mg a day and put me on provera for the 10 day stint. The provera jumped started my cycles...and the avandamet kept them going. Even when I stopped taking the pill, the medicine had built up in my system enough to carry me on for two additional months.
Problem was I couldn't handle the avandia. So, now I'm finally back on metformin only for about 2 weeks now. I'm awaiting the return of AF with you ladies, and I'm just as anxious as you are for it to return...but give it time. I will say that if you're under 1000mg, you may want to speak with your physician about upping the Px. Other then that...it may take you anywhere from two to three months to see results...hang in there!

Hi there I am new to Met also.I am 40 years old never pregnant adopted 4 children, but decided to try met. because I have read so much about how it works for women with PCOS/. So I asked my OB/GYn and he took a few test and said yes go ahead and try it. I have been on it for well I am starting my 5 week today and no AF . Just was wondering if I should call my doctor or let it go for a few more weeks to see whats up? Any suggestions. I was told I am a prime canidate of PCOS from an ultra sound and blood work. I have had no really bad side effects on met. only maybe more tired and yes the lovely BMs but now I feel better and am doing fine.I have not noticed any weight loss at all. Hoping maybe soon it will start to come off.Little by little. I am not really trying to get pregnant but if it happens then I beleive its a miracle. Because all the infertility in the world for 12 years did not help me ,so if it does then well GREAT!! I am not really planning on it to happen thought because I don't beleive that with me just taking Met. it will make me O and get PG. Just wanted to post on here I read it quite often and all your inputs and opinions really do help others. Thanks for listening. I am on 1500 of met a day. Have a great day ,Liz
Welcome, just as I was telling the others, it takes 2 to 3 months for the medicine to build up in your system enough to have an effect. Some experience immediate results, others may take the full time period. I would give it another 2 or 3 weeks if I was you, before I contacted my doctor.
I wonder how everyone else is doing?
Stephanie? Have you contacted your doctor to up your dose?
