I am wondering how you guys managed to find out so much about your PCOS. I was told I have PCOS in Dec 03 tho I suspect that I have had it since I was a teenager. I am now 39. I have had bad health for the last 3 years, diagnosed with diabetes (Type II), underactive thyroid, high cholesterol, had my gall bladder removed last May and a string of other things. I have had very few periods in my lifetime. I have facial hair, am overweight even though I workout most days of the week and have a healthy diet. I find it all very confusing. I used Metformin for 1 year but to be honest my life was a misery. It had very severe tummy upsets which also didn't help with my diabetes and other problems as I felt that I was losing the benefits of any of the drugs that I took. I now take Gliclazide and Rosiglitazone to control my diabetes, thyroxine for my thyroid, yasmin (dianette didn't agree with me) to help with a bout of hormonal acne.
I realize that most of my problems are hormonal but my GP feels that we have to deal with the more important illnesses first in order to get them under control. She has never mentioned a scan. I get regular blood tests but none relating to PCOS.
I feel like i am on a merry-go-round and can't get off.
Don't know how much help I can offer you, just wanted to say hi, and offer my support to you.
How insistent are you with your doc? It is important to get some of your more serious conditions under control, but the type II d and the hypothyroid are so often caused by the hormonal imbalances present as a result of PCOS, that surely trying to control the diabetes and hypothyroid without looking at the PCOS too is like trying to clear the driveway while it's still snowing!!!!
Take the time to read, and maybe print off some of the articles in the "medical" forums on this site, and take them to your GP. Does he/she seem knowledgable about PCOS at all?
Have you seen a endocrine specialist at all? Try and get your doctor to refer you as they will have more experience with the plethora of things that you are dealing with.
Hope this helps to start with. Keep us all informed of how you get on.
Good luck
Viv Stedders

No kids, not ttc (ever!!). Concerned about my health. Dx Summer 1994. After an ultrasound, the doctor said "You have PCOS, you'll probably have trouble conceiving. Bye"
Recently became more interested in PCOS after struggling to lose weight despite good eating habits.

I actually have a great relationship with my doctor and she seems pretty knowledgable about PCOS as I think a close member of her family is a sufferer.
I haven't seen an endocrinologist. I attended hospital in 1988 because i was having trouble with my periods. I had many examinations and blood tests and basically they decided that I had a hormone imbalance and that i was to contact them when i wanted to start a family.
I see my doctor fortnightly and I now feel that we should really be looking at the bigger picture.
I was also wondering if anyone out there has tried reflexology. I have heard that they are able to sort out many hormonal problems.
