I was diagnosed with PCOS a week and a half ago. It was a blessing that my little sister was diagnosed with PCOS 2 weeks before I went to the doctor, because it really started the ball rolling. I have been ttc for 11 months, I had taken ov tests each month and nothing ever appeared. Now I know why. I go back to the doctor in 2 weeks to have more blood work done...testing glucose/insulin levels and testosterone. He said that then he will put me on clomid. I want to find the product that will work the best for me, but I don't know where to begin. I have looked into Fertilaid, and am wondering if anyone has had success with that, or if I should go the medical route and start on clomid. Any insight would be very helpful. This is all very overwhelmin and any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
Hi! I've never been ttc before, but I have seen a lot of posts around SC where women talk about both Metformin and Clomid as being helpful in trying to conceive. Metformin helps a lot of women have more regular cycles, if you haven't heard of it it's a drug often prescribed for diabetics, but for insulin resistant people too (like me!). It helps make your body more sensitive to the insulin you produce, and I have lost a lot of weight on Metformin, which I have heard is very helpful when ttc. I think they say if you lose 10% of your body weight it helps a lot of women conceive.
I just got on the scale this morning and I broke into the 130s for the first time in years. When I was diagnosed I weighted 163 pounds, and this morning I was 138 so I've lost 25 pounds on Metformin and by changing my diet. I'm very short (under 5 feet) and my ideal weight is around 100 pounds so 160 was a lot for me to be carrying around! I changed my diet in November when I was diagnosed, and I started on a diabetic diet because I'm insulin resistant. No sugar, no white flour, no potatoes etc. It's been hard but I feel so much better and I don't crave carbs as bad as I use dto before my blood sugar and blood insulin levels were under control.
So make sure you ask about your diet and about Metformin as well as Clomid. That's all I know about it, but I hope it helped and I hope you get some answers soon. It's an overwhelming diagnosis at first and it takes a long time to get used to, but there's a lot of support here at SC. Good luck!
