 Where did you begin?

First off, I haven't been here for a while - when did this site change so much? Is Kat no longer involved? What a change - what hasn't changed, though, is the great support. So, I'm back for some advice..
How did you decide where to begin? I am open to domestic, international etc.
I know it's a basic question but I'd love to hear your stories..
