Default Where do you get a Clomid Script?

I asked my regular doctor for it, and she said that she doesnt have the authority or liscense or something to prescribe it. What kind of doctor can prescribe it?

Gynecologists and Reproductive Endocrinologists usually prescribe them. Hope that helps!

Is there a difference between an endocrinologist and a reproductive endocrinologist? My insurance doesnt cover anything related to fertility so i think i am just seeing a reg endocrinologist. hmmm.

Kaytriot

I hope I spelled that right. My Dr. told me the same thing and suggested I go to a different Dr for the script. I am paying out of pocket and the initial visit was going to be 3 times as much as the clomid could be purchased for online. If you Dr has tested and you have no cysts medmex is a good place to order from. 30 bucks for about 30 tablets 50 mg each. I just finished my first round of clomid earlier last month and have taken 4 test this week, all positive. I am so excited. Just be careful they have some nasty side effects on some people. I was just real moody. But it was worth it. You don't need a script to order from them but pelase becareful although I did it I do not recommend self medicating.
Hope that helps.
BFP on first round of clomid. Can't wait

Thanks for your replies!

How do you know what you are getting is the real pills? I have never seen clomid. And I have seen on the news about counterfeit pills being bought online. How do you know which company or website to trust?

Kaytriot they come sealed and the spanish name for clomid is omifin. I assume meds mex is legit, as I am pregnant now. They actually come from Cozumel and I honestly believe they are a trusted site. I figured it was 30 dollars and I was willing to lose if if I did. They send the package registered and you will have to sign for it. Also they were really good about responding to e mails and questions and haev a number you can reach them at. When I was on vacation in Cozumel I actually purchased retin-A skin cream from just a corner store. Type in omifin on the web and view the small round white scored pills and see if tat helps you to feel more comfortable. If not consult a merk index.

Any doctor can prescribe any medication but most doctors choose not to prescribe medications to treat conditions they do not specialize in where the risks outweigh the benefits. So whereas you might be able to get a general practitioner to prescribe Prozac for depression - a drug with low risks and a good chance of success - you are not very likely to find a GP who will prescribe clomid - a drug with significantly more risk and less chance of success if not administered correctly.

You *can* order clomid on line and you *can* find the dosage on line pretty easily... but without bloodwork and certain other tests it is not so easy to know if you are an ideal candidate for it. You might have blokced tubes, you might have male factor...

I ordered clomid on line and I took it - 50mg days 3-7 - and I did not get pregnant, I didn't even ovulate - the only result I saw was when I went in for bloodwork again for PCOS my hormones were a LOT worse than before.

I do not think I was an ideal candidate for clomid. I think my blood work was too bad going in to it for it to work. I have been on birth control pills the last few months trying to get my hormones back to normal.

We don't have infertility coverage, either... I am going to look into the out of pocket expense for me to be monitored on clomid - my OB will do it but I don't know the cost - and if it is really high and/or I am not pregnant by the end of the year, we are switching to Kaiser Permanente HMO through which we would have IF coverage. Right now we have my a PPO. I always thought PPOs were better so I didn't look at the differences between the two options when we signed up at DH's work.

I do not suggest doing clomid on your own.

I see you started metformin just a little over a week ago? I personally would say wait 3 months at least to see if you even need anything else. Even if the met alone doesn't help in the end, your chance of getting pregnant and carrying to term is much better once you have your PCOS/IR under control somewhat.

Something else to consider w/ the clomid is most doctors have a 6 cycle limit on it because taken too often they think it can increase the risk of ovarian cancer. So you really don't want to just go popping it like candy. You want to take it with the greatest chance of success.

BTW I am seeing a regular endocrinologist in San Jose and I think he is really good for the PCOS... but he doesn't do fertility.

I agree with runner duck my dr did all my test but would not write a script. she reccommended I go to another Dr. and get it and she even told him she would do all the test, but wouldn't write the script.
By the way Runner Duck my first round of clomid and I have a BFP. I know you told me you wouldn't suggest ordering it and about the side effects. But I thank you any way for the info and just want you to know my Dr monitered me. Hoping for HH9 months. I just wish this headache would go away : 0 )
