Does anyone else have white hair growing due to PCOS? I'm one of the "lucky" people who have always had a strand or two of gray hair all my life, but now I notice white hair. Has anyone else noticed this? What does it mean? Is it PCOS-related?

no clue if its related .. but I have a 'white' hair that grows straight out on my cheek by my nose!! I often don't notice it until its about 2" long@! its white and course ... very strange ... about once a year I notice it ... and pluck it! keeps coming back. No gray hair ...yet....
I have the same thing, FLJill. There's one that grows by my right eye and won't quit no matter how many times I've plucked it. I get occasional ones other spots on my face, but they seem to be random.
Does anyone know if its PCOS related? It seems like I saw a thread up here before that white hair indicates a deficiency of some kind, but I don't remember what?

I doubt it. Unless you have a ton of the wiry little buggers. Between me, my five sisters, our mother, three female cousins and two aunts, plus female friends? I think we've all had them at some point or other. They're irritating, but ultimately harmless and just a quirky, if annoying, part of being human.
I just did a Google search and one site says that white hair indicates a vitamin B deficiency, which kind of explains things. I am on 1,700 mg of metformin per day and I haven't been taking any B-complex vitamins for over a month now.
This came from hairscientists.org"
"White hair - having no pigment. Possible causes: Genetic. Vitamin B deficiency. Drugs for treatment of arthritis. Other health factors."

The Vitamin B thing is interesting. I have lots of white hairs, on my face on my head, and most recently, in my eyelashes! I'm 30, and no-one in my family has this so I figured it must be something else. I wonder if it's reversible?
Gray hair
Gray hair color typically occurs naturally as people age (see "Effects of aging on hair color", below). The same can be said for white hair. In some cases, gray hair may instead be caused by a deficiency of B12 or a thyroid imbalance.[3]
Effects of aging on hair color
A change in hair color typically occurs naturally as people age, usually turning their hair to gray and then white. More than 40 percent of Americans have some gray hair by age 40, but white hairs can appear as early as childhood. The age at which graying begins seems to be almost entirely based on genetics. Sometimes people are born with gray hair because they inherit the trait genetically. Some people use hair dye to disguise the amount of gray in their hair.
A recent study demonstrated that people 50-70 years of age with dark eyebrows but gray hair are significantly more likely to have type II diabetes than those with both gray eyebrows and hair.[5]
There are no special diets, nutritional supplements, vitamins, nor proteins that have been proven to slow, stop, or in any way affect the graying process, although many have been marketed over the years. This may change in the near future. French scientists treating leukemia patients with a new cancer drug noted an unexpected side effect: some of the patients' hair color was restored to their pre-gray color.[8]
I've got white hairs on my face, and also alot of pale "peach fuzz". I've always taken good vitamins so doubt if that's the reason.
I did laser on my face, which was great for getting rid of the dark hairs, but it doesn't do anything about the pale hair. (Something scientific about the pigment in the hair soaking up the laser-ing, pale hair doesn't soak up enough light to kill it.)
I've no explanation for the white hair, but think I got more white hairs after age 50 (on face, my head hair has been slower to turn grey.) In any case, don't wait til 50 to finally do the laser thing!

I have white/silver hairs and more and more of them every year. My mother and father both have white hair. I didn't expect anything else. I doubt it's anything but genetics in my case. As for the odd white facial hair. I get one from time to time. I assume it's no different than other terminal hairs, it just happens to be white becuase I'm getting older. Other areas are greying, too, these days.

My hair is coming in bright silver.... but I do have a couple of white hairs in my eyebrows which bugs me quite a bit.
Ugh, I hate the white brow hairs that are invading my left brow so much, don't know why I get so many on the left side and a lot less on the right side. I have very dark hair so they stick out like a sore thumb.
I also have a nice streak of silver hair coming in, my dh says it's gray, but silver sounds much nicer.
Oh it sparkles! A few weeks back we met up with some friends and we were standing outside talking in the sun and this woman was asking me how I got those pretty highlights, umm they are growing in with age, she was jealous of my gray errr silver hair.
I got my first white hair when I was 18 and it came in very rapidly after that. By the time I was in my 30's it was pure white. I love it and get more compliments on it than when it was light brown before. I think that mine is mostly genetic as my grandmother went white early. However, the PCOS and Vitamin B deficiency may play a role.
I don't like the fact that my eyebrows are turning white, now...they look like they are disappearing and "drawing them back on" with eyebrown pencil just isn't the same!
