My numbers are still the same so I had to make the decision of getting the procedure done. I'm so upset, obviously.
I am very nervous about getting "knocked out". I hate anesthestia (sp) and the thought of getting it scares me so much. Please tell me what to expect. Was it painful? How long did it take? How did you feel afterwards? I'm so

Kim,
I'm so sorry you are going through this! I haven't been through a d&c but have gone under anesthesia for my cerclage. It was easy and seemed like no time passed at all. I hope some other cysters can answer to the pain, etc. You can ask for meds, of course.
Just remember, it is your final call on all of this, especially if you don't have an infection. Do it if you are ready, but you don't have to if you aren't ready.
((Hugs))

Hi - I had a D and C because I got tired of waiting for the m/c to happen naturally. I had just had an appendectomy 2 months before and was very apprehensive about having surgery again, and being knocked out again.
The most frustrating thing about the D and C was waiting in the pre-op room. When I woke up, I was a bit "confused" but pretty coherent, really wasn't even all that sore and probably would have been fine to drive myself home. The day of the D and C, it hurt to urinate, but was easy to walk around. The second day, I was back to normal - it didn't hurt to urinate at all. I went shopping for a few hours, in fact! I bled about a week, and had a follow up appointment with my doctor 1 week after, where she verified my cervix was closed. Two weeks later I started getting "egg white" fluid and ovulated exactly 3 weeks after the D and C - without drugs - possibly for the first time in my life. We waited 2 weeks after the operation to have "relations" again.
Hope this has been helpful (but not too much information!) You are welcome to send me a PM if you have further questions...all in all it wasn't a bad experience and if this should happen to me again (hopefully it will not) I will go the same route.

I wasn't knocked out at all for mine! I had IV sedation..so I felt like I had like 4 glasses of wine (a fine feeling!)...and my husband was in the room with me THE WHOLE TIME! It took all of 10 minutes. I was home within the hour....and physically it was the best decision for me. I barely spotted for a couple of days. I had it done at 10 weeks and had a month long of u/s watching the inevitable...so I was *ready* for it to be over!
See if you can be awake...I don't see why you can't!

When I lost my lil' Peanut my Dr said I should get the D&C because everything was still intact (SP?) I was 14w 2d when lil' Peanut was born to heaven. I got "knocked out" because thats what they do I guess. I was never so afraid. But to be honest with you there really was no *pain* only a broken heart.

I'm so sorry for your loss. I know how it feels, as I had a blighted ovum in Sept and had a d&c. For me, it was the right choice. I was 9wks and they told me that my body could continue the pregnancy for at least another 4 weeks. I couldn't bear the thought of waiting and the possibility that it could happen in an awkward place like work or something.
For the d&c, I was knocked out. To be totally honest, I was really emotional before going into surgery, I was so greatful when the anasthesia kicked in. My dr said the procedure was 20 min, and I went home the same day. My bleeding was very light for only for 7 days and then I spotted for another 3 weeks. Physically, the recovery was relatively quick. For me, it's the emotional aspect of the m/c that has been difficult. But each day it's getting better. I've just had a 6 week follow-up with my dr, and we have a plan for our next IVF cycle to begin in Dec.
Good luck to you sweetie. Take good care of yourself and let everyone around you support you and be there for you. If you want to chat, please feel free to IM me.
cheers,
jen x

Thank you so much everyone. I am so upset and just have crazy thoughts in my head. Everything from will it hurt, to what if I pee or something? I know, I shouldn't worry about that, but I am so modest. I hate the fact that I will be asleep and not knowing if I am totally exposed. UGH...I guess it's normal to think like this, but it's horrible.

Kim,
They do this kind of stuff every single day. The way I got over most of my modesty about docs and nurses was that they can't do their jobs with my clothes on and legs together. And they want to do good work for us! The really do. I am glad, though, that I was still asleep when they lifted me off the OR table onto the rolling gurney because I hate to be picked up. Of course it reminds me that I weigh too much. And they don't think anything about it. Honestly.
If you decide to go with the procedure, try to relax and just let it happen. I haven't heard anyone talk about pain and trouble afterward.

hi roonie, I can second Sheri on that... if you choose to go for a d&c, there's a bit of cramping after the procedure but they will give you a pain killer if you need it. After that, the cramping is minimal. I took 1 week off of work to recover--my employer was v. understanding.
((((((hugs to you))))))))

OMG Wait a second...they pick you up? Oh no! I didn't even think of that. Oh geez, that's horrible. Now I will fixate on them not being able to lift me.

I just had my first d&c today. I was 8w6d pg, blighted ovum. I wantedto try to wait and let my body miscarry on its own, but the waiting was killing me. I had iv sedation and the procedure was only 20 mins long. I have had no cramping yet and very little spotting. I am emotionly drained from the day, but I feel having the D&C was the best thing for both me and my dh.
Sorry for your loss, best of luck
Aimye

I had a D&C last year (a year ago last month) & I was knocked out. They did pick me up which I didn't know about until I woke up. They picked me up to move me from the table to a recliner chair. Is it possible you could get the methotrexate shot rather than a D&C since you are so early along? I was 8w6d when I got the shot this last m/c. My beta #'s are finally going down normally & I've had absolutely no symptoms or bleeding which was definately not the case w/ my D&C. It has been so much easier to recover from the methotrexate shots than it was from the D&C & my betas levels are actually going down a lot faster now than w/ the D&C.
Please let me know if you have any other questions.
Good Luck & {{{{HUGS}}}}
