Who has done microdermibrasion? & how has it helped?
Just curious as to what type of change anyone seen after doing microdermibrasion?
Did it help at all?
Did it help with your oily skin?
With dark circles?
Acne scars?

Hey Mschin... I am Kayla I am actually and Aesthetician so I would say that Microdermabrasion is typically geared toward mature dry wrinkled scarred skin.. It's great for scarring although if your skin very reactive it could cause worse scarring... The microderm doesn't really do much for the oil.. What I would suggest is maybe trying a light chemical peel like a low percent Glycolic or Salicylic peel or if you really want to try microderma take it slow and light pressure because your best result happen over time not over night.. I hope this helps if you have any other questions let me know...

Thanks Kpotter!
I think I did a vitamin A peel a couple years ago..and it made my face break out with a bunch of white heads..is that the same thing as the salicylic peel?
I have acne and oily skin because I am off the BCP pills and wanted something to help control the acne and help my face look normal

A salicylic acid peel and a vitamin A peel is completely different animal a vitamin A peel would be like a 2 to a Salicylic being a 7 or 8. A salcylic peel is a peel that pretty much goes into your pore and eats up all of the oil yet if you skins prone to have oil and breakouts(like mine). It's only a temporary fix this breakout will come back unless you follow up with some type of good skin care.. Right now with my hormones being the way they are I am using clearsil at night as a stop treatment and washing my face morning and night with a sensitive gel acne cleanser(so it doesnt over strip).. When you go to a spa they are going to try and get you to buy all kinds of stuff you truly don't need alls you need is a good antibacterial cleanser(gel for extremely oily or cream for sensitive oily) spot treatment(anything will do as long as it had benzoyl peroxide in it) and a light moisturizer(if your face gets dry feeling).. If you get a peel done they do wonder but make sure you look up the place you go to because if the person doesn't listen to you or doesnt know what they are doing they can and mostly likely hurt you.. Chemical peels are a wonderful thing to resurface and rejuvenate so I would say above anything I would maybe try a peel...

Thank you, you have been very helpful!
I think I will suggest a salcylic acid peel for myself!
I am going to a Dr...well Dermatoligist! Its my sisters dermatoligist and she has beautiful skin! Her friend works there so I know it is a good place to start!
What cleanser do you use? You seem to have the same type as skin as me so I would love to hear whats working for you?

I bought a microdermibrasion kit from BeautiControl so I can do it at home for less than the spa treatments. It's $62 for the machine and the cream (then $50 later for the cream). The cream lasts at least 12 treatments... so for $62 that is awesome. I've used it 3 times (once a week) so far and my scars are much lighter. It isn't helping with new acne, which is to be expected, but it IS healing my scars, and I suffer from a lot. If you're interested in microdermibrasion, I'd say look into the BeautiControl kit and do it yourself. Spas charge way too much for that kind of thing.

I have just invested in a Pure Essence home microdermbrasion system after researching them on the net. I have had microdermabrasion done in salons before and liked the results. It really improves the texture of your skin. I am on the BCP pill and don't have 'break outs' but my skin is oily and uneven still. I have used the home system once, last night, and today my skin feels amazing. Saying that I am bit apprehensive to use it again as I have a wedding on Saturday and I've heard it can lead to breakouts in the beginning!
kpotter - are the peels you talking about the one that makes a layer of skin peel off your face or is that something more extreme? I have been wondering if they are an option for someone my age (29). I don't have many wrinkles (yet!) but have some scarring that I would like to get rid of.
I have done quite a bit of microdermabrasion. Years ago I did it as part of a microdermabrasion programme for 6 weeks and it smoothed out my bumpy face and lessened the scarring. However, it doesn't help with my oily skin at all, and it didn't stop my breakouts.
Now I just have do a programme of microdermabrasion once per year to help with new scars that appear from the acne. Usually it's a month to 6 weeks of treatment of 1 time per week along with some kind of facial to clean acne (my skin is very congested no matter what I do).
They recommend that you go once per month for microdermobrasion after the initial programme, to keep up the results, but I personally didn't see such good results to warrant that kind of ongoing cost.
I also tried hydrodermobrasion which is meant to be less abrasive on the skin, but I didn't see any results from that at all, and I did that for 2 months!
I tried the home dermabrasion kit from Neutrogena and didn't see any results at all, although I hear others are satisfied with it.
I hope this helps you.
