their period after losing weight? I am 41 years old, have always had regular periods and then 4 years ago my periods started going crazy. My endo. says PCOS and if I lose weight my periods will come back. I really would love to know if there is anyone here who always had regular periods, lost them, and then got them back when they lost weight. I am not looking to conceive. I would just like to feel normal again. I was on Metformin for 4 months and then took myself off because nothing was happening. I know a lot of people have suggested that i should have stayed on it for longer. I used to get my period if I took 5 days of Provera and now when I take Provera....nothing! I'm not pregnant because I've taken many tests and it's been over a year since I've gotten a period. I'm going back to all doctors next month, but does any of my story sound familiar to anyone?
I wish I could give you an answer but I am one of the few who get regular periods. I really hope you get some answers!
Heather

I was diagnosed at age 16, though my symptoms went as far back as to when I started puberty and I had percosious (sp) puberty beginning at age 5. The older I got the worse my symptoms got, as for periods, they were NEVER normal. TheY averaged bleeds of 25 days in lenght and would have them maybe at the most 3 times a year. MY longest time between periods was 2 years. My longest periods were in the 60 plus day range of constant medium to heavy bleeds. I was a mess!
Over the years my weight (I was always chubby) increased. From chubby to obese to morbidly obese.
The older I got the bigger I got the worse my signs and symptoms got.
So I lost weight via a gastric bypass, I now weight a lil more than I did at age 16, still considered overweight, will NEVER be thin.. I am done losing I have reached my base.
My first month following bypass was a 20 pound drop in weight and with it came a period, by month 2 I have lost 40 total and got another period. Here I am 3 years post surgery, not losing anymore but I have been getting periods regularly since month one. I am not 28 day normal BUT I am in the 30-32 roughly long cycles normal.
I just started BBT am tryign to conceive. I used to chart regularly 14-13-12-11 years ago. My charts were insane very erratic. Very clearly anovulatory. For me losing weight gave me not only my periods back but its looking like I am O'ing as well!!!
Please do not read this and think I am suggesting bypass to you or anyone for that matter. I am only stating what I did, and how losing weight regardless of how it is done can help!
I lost 25 lbs and AF showed up!! Althought it was only for 3 months!! LOL,, I hadn't had AF in almost 3yrs!! I do think that weight loss helps!! ALOT!! WELCOME TO SC!!!

I had regular periods when I was 12-20 and went on the pill and then after taking the pill for 5 years went off so DH and I could try to have children. Didn't get it anymore (going on over a year) now on Met (for 4 mos) and still nothing. But I haven't lost any weight so maybe that is the problem.

Hey you guys...that's great news! Thank you so much! I've been in such denial saying things like...I know a lot of fat girls that still get their period and thinking that it's not my weight! I am so glad to know that you responded and this really gives me new hope! Thank you and good luck, Day, on trying to conceive!
