Default Who prescribed...

your Spiro?

My Gyno didn't think that I had "enough" hair, even though I told him I shave and pluck it. I haven't seen an Endo, but I'm considering getting a referal.

So, who prescribed your Spiro? And did you have a hard time getting them to?

I have been offered Spiro by my endo, and as soon as I get insurance again, I am going to take her up on the offer.

My GP (an internist) originally prescribed me Spiro at 50 mg a day. She also referred me to a gyno. The gyno upped my presciption to 100 mg a day. My GP offered it too me. Honestly, before this I hadn't ever heard of PCOS. I just thought all the problems I had were normal or because I am overweight. My GP suggested I had PCOS and she sent me to a gyno for a diagnoses.

I also thought my problems were because of being overweight. I tried and tried to lose weight to help my symptoms, but I never really had much success. Now I know why. When I went to my GP she ran the blood work and diagnosed me, but then referred me to a Gyno for a second opinion and meds.

I guess next time I go to my Gyno in June I'll bring it up, and if he refuses, I'll ask for a referral to an Endo and go from there.

What are the advantages of seeing an Endo instead of just a Gyno? Sorry if this is a stupid question.

I went to my Gyno yesterday and she wouldn't Rx me spiro. she said that it won't make the hair that i currently have go away, it would only prevent more hair from growing. and she still didn't Rx me it! I shouldn't be so surprised, she didn't Rx me Met either?!?!?!?!

Mine is prescribed by a Reproductive Endo. I had asked my GP and Gyno previously, and neither would do it. It has been very helpful for me. The growth has slowed tremendously. I no longer have growth in some areas where the hair was still fine. All the coarse hairs are still there, but they are a lot slower to grow.

Lovin'Life-- Why wouldn't she prescribe Met? It sounds like you need to find a new doctor.

mistyr--I'm glad it is working out for you and that your Endo listened to you. I find it so odd that doctors won't prescribe meds that people need, and we have to search all over to find doctors that will take notice to our symptoms. Its not like we're asking for narcotics or anything like that. We don't enjoy taking a million meds each day or spending the money on the prescritions themselves.

I share this frustration. I know friends whose doctor's seemingly throw pills at them...but I can't get a simple script for Met!!
