Wink whole wheat bread vs white bread

this may seem like a dumb question but does whole wheat bread have low carb or is it the same as white bread?

thanks in advance for answers

Personally, I think most wheat bread is white bread with a tan. Read the label, and if it doens't have any high fructose corn syrup, or partially hydrogenated anything in it, you're doing good. I read every label of every brand of bread, and I only found ONE like that. It's Nature's Way "sugar free" bread. It's got malitol in it instead or something. It's surprisingly soft too. I really like it. I found it when I was in Florida, but I haven't found it since I've been home.

There's more fibre in whole wheat bread so the amount of carbs you digest is less than in white bread. But there is still sugar and colouring added to most whole wheat bread, like Eponine said.

Default Yeah - but Whole wheat bread tastes better!!!

I know the carbs are slightly lower and your body apparently breaks them down slower, increases your fibre intake, etc. but there is a REALLY, REALLY Good reason for eating wholewheat - IT TASTES BETTER THAN WHITE BREAD!!

Buy whole GRAIN bread, not whole wheat or white bread. It has way less carbs, less sugar, less junk than fake wheat "wheat" bread. Read the lables.

Default Ohhh - even better!!

Whole Grain bread - fantastic stuff!! Especially if it has all the nutty bits of the grain in it - if you're peckish a bit later just pick out the bits still stuck in your teeth and you can feast again!!! LOL!!!

Where in the world, you you guys find whole grain bread?? Everything I see in the store is just plain old whole wheat, or those "12 grain" things that have sunflower seeds added, and still have all the bad stuff in them.

I got so tired of the American bread I started baking my own. That way I know exactly what's in it, there's no corn syrup and no preservatives, just plenty of taste - and one slice fills you up, so you don't need to wolf down five slice to fill your stomach.

I usually get mine from a health food store. If you have a Trader Joes in your area, they have it now. You just have to look for it specificially. Whole Foods has it too...

Fred Meyer has Whole grain breads and I think that Kroger may to because they are the same stores. Also I have found it at Safeway/Carrs too. I really like the Vita Bee that Fred Meyer has (the only place you can get it). I do agree about wheat bread, we just call it brown bread because all they did was recolor the bleached flour. Fred Meyer even has low card bread in the natural health section.

Go for "stone ground" whole wheat bread -- the carbs are the same as white, but the glycemic index is considerably lower.
