Today I tried it for the first time and did not notice much of a taste difference. So, yaaay for good carbs.
I'm on a low cal diet and I know lots of you are doing low carb but I thought I'd share this lil tidbit b/c I was scared to try whole wheat pasta. To me, it just didn't sound very awesome...but it is...woot woot, lol!

I use whole wheat sometimes, but usually use the barilla plus pasta. It is lower carb and higher protein. It also tastes good. I'm glad you're changing your diet plan. It helps a lot!
i also have been scared to try whole wheat pasta...but if it tastes good, i'll give it a try...and i didn't know one of my fav restauraunts, The Olive garden, serves whole wheat...i think it's time again for me to go!

We have been buying the whole grain pasta. It tastes the same as far as I am concerned. It's got a higher amount of carbs than the regular pasta, but the difference is the carbs aren't as processed as in bleached flour and your body processes them better. I'm all for foods that are better for us but taste like the bad ones! Now if they could successfully manage it with candy & cookies... :p

Whole foods has whole wheat fig cookies sweetened with fruit juice! I forget the brand, but you have to check all the ingredients. Of that brand there were 4 flavors, 2 with white flour or sugar and 2 without either. You had to read the back to tell the difference. I always hated fig newtons, but these are really good.
We don't have a whole foods here. We have one organic store but it's soooo expensive, it's called Food Fantasies & is a local deal. I just try to buy from Schnuck's what I can that's organic or whole grain. I know there are whole grain Fig Newtons now, but I'm waiting on the store to have them in strawberry.
DH got the whole grain Fig Newtons. He said they were OK, but full of sugar, lol. We also tried the whole grain Krispy Kreme donuts, after picking the sugar off the top. They were better than I had hoped! Whole Foods is pretty expensive here and a lot of the foods have HFCS, white flour, potatoes, etc. in them. Two years ago it was not like that. We go there for treats mostly.
I've been trying to take the time to read labels more & find it frustrating. But if I can even change out some things it's better than none. Labels always try to trick people. I.E. some things that are lo-cal are high fat. Low fat can be high carb or high sodium. It's insanity!
Yep. When I first started my diet I read EVERY label. I was near tears as I shopped since it was so stressful. Eventually I learned what brands were more trustworthy as far as not switching around ingredients month to month. It's weird what they put potato starch in, including ice cream. I have my cheat foods (ketchup and salad dressings), but everything else is HFCS free and mostly sugar free or sweetened with fruit juice. I have been getting the bread with sugar in it again, but that's me not wanting to drive to where I know the bread is sugar free. The bagels we get are sugar free I think, and whole wheat, as well as the English Muffins. We use Dukes Mayo which is always sugar free. I also found some Splenda sweet gerkins.
I do WW and no white food diet. So, whole wheat bread, pasta, flour, brown rice and alternative sweeteners have become my friends. Besides Olive Garden, Macaroni Grill also has a whole wheat penne pasta option. TGIFriday's and Houlihan's have a whole wheat bun for their sandwiches. Salads are always good (bring you own dressing). Also, you can get Boboli (pizza crust), couscous and Rice-a-Roni in whole grain forms now. Be careful when buying "whole wheat". It has to say 100% whole wheat or whole grain (or read the label). Some have white flour as well. Anything by Kashi is perfect. So are most of the Lean Cusine Spa meals. We are getting a Whole Foods this Spring. Can't Wait!
Good luck all, it really makes a differnce when trying to loose weight.
